Ok fellas, what brand and type of rifle small rifle primer do you guys use most
You can make two choices. I may have missed a few brands as the poll is limited 10 choices. PMC and Wolf are two that i know of. Anyhow let us know what you use.
It is interesting looking at these results to loosely correlate the chamber pressure of the load and cartridge used. James Calhoon has written an interesting article on Primers and Pressure.
It would be interesting to know from a statistical standpoint weather the poll results for primers with thicker cups relate to hot cartridges or loads
I should probably have phrased my question more specifically. Is the choice of the primer related to:
- The cartridge being used (ie Hot cartridge = 17 Rem),
- Pushing a cartridge to its limits (ie Hot loads),
- Perceived/actual accuracy improvement,
- Reliability
- Brand loyalty, or
- All of the above
I only use Rem 7 1/2s
The reason behind this was when i started reloading 3yrs ago primer weren't thick on the ground around my parts and the only ones that i could get a decent supply of was the Remington Primers.
So i bought up a thousand and have slowly started working through them.
I also bought a 17Rem and the Rem 7 1/2s are reccomended for them for their thicker/tougher cup, so now i have less reason to change.
I use ccibr4 and fed match for my comp loads in my 6br's but rem 71/2 in the 223.All are hot loads. They are what ran best in load development for each particular
rifle.

Macca from your experience would you say the 223 is a primer popper? or only at max loads in a good action?

I marked 2 in the pole. the other is RWS why because I also use berdan primers and their made
by RWS Ive never had a problem with them either!
