hi guys
just wondering, is it still possible to buy .500s&w ammo here in nsw?
& while im here, who chambers it in a lever action ( mass produced, not custom made!)
for a pistol cartridge its looking good cause it will kill anything walking here in oz
that and the fact that you can load 700gr cast bullet, that 50gr heavier than the .50bmg
650gr ball rnd.
the down side is range .... 200m in the pistol however, in a rifle i dont know?

Sort of. Special order only.

No. I'd consider one if they did though.
Slightly scaled up (and beefed up) Win92 clone would be fantastic.

It's a custom only job Marco. Nobody chambers it in a factory rifle. It's been mooted in various circles though.
A shortened Remington 7600 pump in .500 would be awesome - if the ammo was readily available.
I'm sure the Govt. would love it too - "Rapid fire .50 calibre rifle."

Yes NIOA can't even get the H&R Handi single shot break action in 500 S&W from USA...cause its a 50 cal..
Guide mate up here has 2 revolvers that I load for, an 8" scoped one and a 4" brute with ported barrel.
40 gr of 2205 with 325 gr Speer and 35 gr of 2205 with 400gr Woodleigh are potent loads that he has wasted quite a few pigs, scrub cattle and buffs with

Yep, know about them. Did your friend also tell you that supply is patchy to non-existant and they cannot be exported?
BigHorn is the second or third mob to push that rifle and for some reason they keep going broke.
What would be good is a company like Rossi to step up with one from them. Their manufacturing might and general competence would make that rifle a reality.

Are the bullets .505 or .510"? If you did screw on an Oz made 50 cal barrel, it could rightly be called a .505 or 510S&W. Then it wont be one of the dangerous 50 cals.

The problem with this cartridge is finding an action wide enough to take it. It is a fat cartridge. That is why the Bighorn action is a 89/92 hybrid.

Projectile are .500 dia for the 500 S&W,
No Aussie barrel makers do this size, only .510
Been toying with getting one made up on a Ruger no 1 action, but can't get a .500 barrel here, and they can't be imported from USA

Lee make a mould for the bullet. A 440gr flat nose, gas check I think it is. Would empty the lead pot fast....
