G'Day All,
I was trying to point out the risks of building a BR rifle other than a 6ppc to shoot against the high quality field of shooters in Australia today.
If another cartridge/calibre was to present itself as a field beating design AND was taken up by some of these shooters, yup I'd consider it.
To all new shooters, you need to start with a 10.5lb 6ppc as you will have much to learn and you need to give yourself every chance to perform to the best of your ability.
To all those wanting a 20ppc/20BR etc etc, for varminting, go for it. If you want to shoot in a BR competition with it, go ahead, experimenters are most welcome, as it usually settles any debate by the aggregates scores. Where else did the ppc come from, from 2 guy's trying something new.....
You need to be aware that you are way out there and going against probably the most accurate cartridge ever designed out to 300yds. Who knows you may be the developer of a cartridge that kills off the ppc.
Yeah I know unlikely but you never know!
Nothing like a good debate
Cheerio Ned

I like the idea of a .20,.22 BR easy to form cases,Lapua brass and good accuracy, velocity, done in a fast twist. Now it would be someone trying to make a point or a foolish man that would compete at short range Br with anything other that a 6ppc,but it has been done with all manner of cartridges over time but at the moment the 6ppc is top of the heap.
Although a bloke by the name of Mike Ratigan might argue that the .22ppc .100 short is better.
