I just paid $60 for 500g of RL17 last week from ( can't say but within 100ks of me)
I had bought the 2209 from there only a few months earlier and that was around $55 at the time.
I think the way to go would be to keep buying some every now and again. As long as it's stored ok should be fine. I've got some that go back a while and I haven't noticed any difference when used over newer stuff.
It's like fuel, it will only keep going up I think. And you gotta have it!

I'm also stocking up on primers now.

Squad, mount up. Johno's hobby horse

The ADI powders sold by Hodgdon under there brand name made here average $21.00 USD at Midsouth and other big outlets in the US.

Yes ive heard all the arguments regarding they buy more powder bla bla.

But just look at some of the costs in moving dangerours goods from factory to port, ship transport to US, customs clearence, dangerous goods transport to re packing facility, re packing, transport as before to wholsaler, transport to retail, retail profit on and on.

Is that unplesant feeling in my rectum just wind?

Powder was around $35 a pound when I was in Texas in November. in the U.S. Most postal services will transport primers, powder and ammo with no or minimal extra cost. I don't think it's that easy to compare prices.

Scott, That price I gave was from Midsouth today and its been the same for 12 months. It runs a fraction more than winchester and AA powder. We make the bloody stuff and are paying double, its gouging at its best

You gotta wonder how that is allowed to happen.
Us poor uninformed aust shooters should take a stand.
How about all of us select one LGS, advise them we ( all shooters in vic?) will only buy through them provided they supply what we want at a decent price , say for the next 12 months and if it works we then could look at renewing that agreement on an annual basis.
Just thinking out loud.

We should be able to do something, right!
Thoughts?

So Aus powder is fractionally dearer than the home grown stuff in the US, guess what US powder is fractionally dearer then Aus made powders in Aus.
If you don't like it don't buy it, give shooting away and take up fucking knitting.
Sick to death of the fucking bitching and moaning about being ripped off, ever wondered why you don't see 50% of sales in the firearms industry? Its because margins are far smaller than 50%. FFS shooters buy clothing, hardware and a plenty of other products everyday that have double, triple or even more mark up than anything shooting related and don't bat an eye lid.

Like I said at the end of the day no one is forcing you to buy it, shooting is a hobby for most, for the few that it is a profession then expenses are tax deductable. If you think it to expensive walk out of the shop, the shop will be forced to lower prices to sell or stop selling powder.

same as fuel and gas, sold over seas for bugger all while we pay threw the nose.
how much do you get it off the makers for 220 ?
and what do you charge for it ?

i am betting the makers are charging the lgs's a premium right ?

i understand the shops have to make a profit, wouldnt be worth running one otherwise,but...if they can sell it so cheap overseas why are we/you paying so much ?

No idea what the distributors pay but it is just common sense that a domestically produced product would be priced just under what an imported product can be put into the market for.

Powder production is a business ADI are there to make money not supply a service, they are of course going to price their product in every market to make the maximum dollars possible. Of course it will be a matter of balancing price and sales volume. Just under the imported powders is where it obviously at in the Aus market. I honestly don't know anyone who limits their shooting due to powder prices so its not like they are loosing sales due to price.

so 40c a litre when we are paying $1.50 at that rate ADI powder should be close to $100/500g

Yep, we might as well start bitching about everything else. A rem 870 was $290,'beer was half the price, soft drinks were endless cups at restaurants, the list goes on...

Enocomies of scale I say.
