I have finally found another man with an 8mm RM! I have a pile of Remington 8mm RM cases, but I use reformed .375H&H which are easier to find. When I anneal I hold the case in my bare hand and rotate it in the flame of a butane torch until the brass changes colour then I drop them into a bucket of cold water. If you hold the case by the head in your fingers you will drop it a LONG time before you get the head anywhere near hot enough to soften it, which you really don't want to do. You apparently can over heat the brass necks too, but I find if I watch close for the colour change and drop it as soon as I see it, that's about perfect.
