Ultrasonic Cleaner - Heads Up

Adam, any special sort of detergent?
Also, do you just use a 400ml beaker and put the cases & ingredients in that, or mix it all straight into the cleaner bowl?

Dangaff I just chucked the mixture straight in the bowl. 25 cases and 400 brings it to the max line. I then 32 mins(could have got away with less) or 4 480 runs. Very bright cases.

I use morning fresh 'cause I can get it cheap from the kitchen

I also put the cases in a beaker, but my ultrasonic unit has a 2 litre capacity. With these smaller units I would probably just go with the tank each time - but you may choose to put a beaker in there.

Do you just use cream of tarter and detergent, or add water too?

If you are using one of the Aldi ultrasonic cleaners (750ml tank) with just the tank - no beakers, etc.

Fill the tank to 3/4 full with water, add a level teaspoon of Cream of Tartar (NOT heaped) and a squirt of detergent.

Ideally you run the unit for a minute or two to get the detergent and Tartar to mix a bit. Then throw your cases in and run it as long as it takes.

I clean the primer pockets before I throw them in the cleaner - less crap to get out of the cases that way.

My Results - Need help!:

6mm BR Lapua cases:
- Body clean
- Neck still partially dirty
- Inside case, still has crap in there, including inside of neck.
- Pink colour on inside of neck

.222 Rem Winchester Factory cases:
- Body Clean
- Body has a Pink colour also
- Still has dirty necks
- Inside of case still dirty.

I did a 2 x 480 runs + 2 x 280 runs for the 6mm BR cases.
I did 3 or 4, 280 runs for the .222 Rem brass.

6mm BR lot had 400ml of home-brand detergent, 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tarter & about 100ml or so of water (over max line)
222 Rem lot had 400ml of home-brand detergent, 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tarter.

Questions:
Why is the brass pink?
Should I always include water.. maybe even less detergent, more water?
Also, how do I get rid of the pink crap now, don't mind too much if the .222 brass is pink as i probably won't use it. The BR brass I will use however.

Forgetting you use a 2L tank.

400ml detergent-shiza!. Mate your killing the soap.

only 15ml or less of detergent, 1 tablespoon of cream tarter and the rest with water.

I tumble all my cases first and only use the ultrasonic cleaner to clean the primer pockets and works very well.

I tried the cream of tartar mix on 25 fed cases and was really happy with the results. Pockets very clean and necks inside and out good too

Hey fellas has anyone figured out if you can disable the timeer on these so they run non stop? would be good to just switch in on and come back after an hour

Does anyone have an easy way of drying cases after cleaning?

I read Nick Harvey say that even a low heat in an oven can soften brass.

I tried standing wet cases in a frying pan on the smallest burner on my gas stove at the lowest heat, to warm them up, wasn't enough. So I did it again ( only enough to get em hot but not burnt). That worked!

But next time I forgot to turn off the gas and they heated for 30mins. There was blueish discolouration around the heads.
I ditched them. Who wants soft heads coming off when fired.

The weather is so shite with all the rain, the sun can't be relied on.

Any easy answers?

I put them in a loading block (this one has a small hole in the bottom of each case hole which helps drainage) and put them in the airflow of the exhaust vent of the computer. It's hot air coming out anyway, so you may as well use it.
