6BR powder choice

Post by diamond T »

I know 2208 IS the powder of choice in the 6br, however i'm going through it like there's no tomorrow. Have a couple of tins of 2209 sitting there, anyone using this? also some BM2. Shooting mostly 105's, although will play with different bullets down to 55gn. I see them listed in the manuals, however would like some real world experiences.
cheers DT

34 grains of 2209 is a compressed charge in a 6BR. This coupled with a 450 mag primer and 107 SMK or 105 Scenar is what i have been using in my own 6BR for a few years now. At IK it gives less vertical than what i was using with 2208. You must use use either the 450 or Rem 7 1/2 to get the speed up and the ES down.

Thanks Tony,
I knew someone was using 2209 & getting good results, but couldn't remember which forum i read it on. Haven't seen much written on 6br.com about it's twin hogdon powder (number escapes me at moment).
Is this load fairly hot? if so what do you suggest as a starting load?
Cheers DT
