Websites for factory ammo BC and trajectories

Post by Plowboy »

Hi all when I got my .223 I bought 100 rounds of federal power shok 55gn softpoints. I am looking for BC and trajectory info to put onto a program I downloaded. I have done a few searches and cannot find any. Any hints or does anybody have the BCs for that and the 50gn vmax?? When I start reloading I want to use them of similar so I would like to know the difference in trajectories. Cheers

for the factory stuff its a bit of pot luck i have found. Alot of programs have inbuilt BC's for factory ammo, or the manufactureres websites may include them, but largely its best guess unless you find them published.

If you know the weight and bullet type a fair guess can be made by going to the hornady etc site and checking what they list for pills in the same weight and cailbre. Its not perfect but its something

Any sort of performance specs and even ballistic programs are really only a guide as to what to expect mate. The exact same batch of ammo will most likely give a different velocity in any two chosen rifles so trajectory will be slightly different.

The only way to be sure is to know the velocity a particular load is giving in your rifle first then load that velocity/projectile into a ballistics program, get the info, and then range check that info for confirmation.

JBM calc's have an extensive list of bc's for proprietary brand bullets in their library, first pull down menu in the trajectory program.

And then as HiWall said "range check that info for confirmation".

I also wouldn't mind knowing this aswell.

BC wise Point Blank program, put in the Muzzle Velocity,100 Yard Velocity & Bullet Weight.

It will give you a answer, who knows if its close to exact but wouldn't be far off.

Some factory ammo boxes come with trajectory tables but not all i would say,

I found some sites that sell ammo might list a BC & Velocity also.

Hope it helps

Chuckhawks.com has a lot of tables, etc on trajectory and ballistics and all that stuff. A lot of it is for free but you could also sign up for a month which costs about $8 or something and check out other stuff to your hearts content!

Sierra, Hornady, Nosler, etc all have SD and BC info for their projectiles and you can 'estimate' velocity (to within 200fps!!) from ADI's reloading manual, if you are using ADI powders that is...

Yeah figured out how to use the BC thingy too. Handy. I forked out some more cash on Winchester premium ballistic tips but the box doesn't even have the claimed muzzle velocity on the box! The one and only box of that I will buy!
