Do think Shane ever gets fed up ....
being right all the time?
I reckon my JAB 20 is a Tac 20 arrived at in a different way.
So I got Tac 20 recipes off the web and every case is diificult to extract or just gets stuck.
Ready to give up and send it back for a different reamer to be run in and call it a bad design.
Shane reckons its pressure, but there is no sign of deformity with the primers and it happens on min loads.
Try a lower charge he says. I think your case is smaller than the Tac 20. So I half heartedly throw 6 rounds together 2 gns lower than last start load, fully expecting to knock them out with the cleaning rod.
They worked. Now I've got to do load development properly.
The joys of wildcatting. Thanks again Shane

Yeah once you commit you must persist. By all measures I am an amature but 221 fireball just keeps ringing in my head.....doing my best to ignore the voices.

Out of interest, why didn't you go TAC20 or 20 Prac?

Re: Do think Shane ever gets fed up ....
swiper order a CZ 527 in 221 fireball, not a wildcat, nice and simple!
I like the longer neck on the 20 TAC and at the time Shane didn't have a 20TAC reamer, made my own long necked 20 cal!

Re: Do think Shane ever gets fed up ....
Will it be much different to the 204 Ruger?
Easily said about the 221...I tried.
Some gun stores DIDN'T know what the 221 fireball is!!! but I spoke to Winchester about it. The 221 FB is made in the US by CZ-USA. Winchester does not trade with CZ-USA. My only choice (and I specifically wanted a 527 Varmint) was to get a 222 rem. Almost ALL the gun stores I went to said I couldn't have that gun because it didn't exist in 222 but I knew it was on the CZ-UB inventory. Most didn't want to listen but I guess they want to sell whats on their shelf (bugger what the customer wants!) I spoke to the most helpful gun shop and walked them through what I wanted them to ask/tell Winchester. Basically I got them to ask winchester to call/email CZUB and ask if they had a 222 there OR if they needed to wait for a production run. My theory was that european markets still use the 222 and therefor it might be sitting on a shelf over there. First answer by winchester was special orders are 18 months but they checked and Lo and behold there is one over there SO I asked them to put my name on it. Now is the anxious wait to see if it makes it into the next container. God I hope it does because I'm hanging for it and the LGS decided to send my PTA in and it's already processed. I have to call Winchester in 2 weeks to see if it has been worth all the hassle.
Only other (easy) alternative to a CZ is to buy a Sako for DOUBLE the price but also double the gun I guess.
Anyway if it never arrives who knows what crazy ideas I will get.

My 17 Mach 4 is built on a cz 222 bought here. Ring rebel gunworks, they are advertising the 527 in 7.62x39 and no one else can get them, may be able to get you a 221 fb
Re: Do think Shane ever gets fed up ....
I'll call em monday but that gun is used and who knows where it came from.
I'll spew if they turn round and say yeah we'll get whatever you like. Seeing the 222 is on order BUt at least I will know where to look when I get the itch.

Not sure what powder you're using but I started out with BM1 in my 20 Prac and had pressure signs very early on. 22.5 was toooo hot for the 40 grainers. Ended up with about 21.7 being the powder but very slow with the 40 grainers.
Now using 2206H with 32 grainers and about 26 (?) grains from memory. My charge is still lower than others with a 20 Prac using 2206H but I just put it down to the Lilja barrel maybe being tighter than normal.
Also originally had the 40 grainers 3 thou off the lands which can cause high pressure. Now have the 32 grainers about 20 thou away and still get 1/2 inch all day.
Soooo, maybe try a slower powder or back away from the lands???
Cheers

Re: Do think Shane ever gets fed up ....
All my reading is the re 10 in the 223 sized 20 cals gives 200fps at least more than anything else. I started with 20 tac loads but will go back to the drawing board and will reduce seating depth too.
Oh for some time. Too many rifles to load for!!!

Have you measured your case water capacity and compared it to the WC of the tac20 & 20prac?

Re: Do think Shane ever gets fed up ....
I read in uncle nicks helpful hints some time ago to find the useable case capacity with water ( water being a consistant SG ) resize the neck on a fired case without knocking out the spent primer then carefully split the case neck to the neck -shoulder junction with a hacksaw blade. then weigh the empty case and a projectile, next fill the case with water and seat the projectile until it becomes hard to seat any further due to hydraulic lock from the water in the case. then weigh again and subtract the first weight from the second. and this will give you useable case capacity in weight of water.
This should give you some idea if the JAB20 and the TAC 20 are close in case volume and you can use the same data.

Re: Do think Shane ever gets fed up ....
Well I took the risk with the chargemaster's delicate waterproff electroninics
Weighed the empty case, one each once fired win and Lap, then filled with water weighed again very carefully!! Came up with 30gns water capacity. Only found one google post on web listing 20Tac as 28.5.
I know 22 gns of re 10 work. I didnt expect it too so only made 6 rounds. I'll test lots of loads from a point below this and see how I go. Do it properly with the chrony set up too
