ADI site shows best performance with 2207. BM1 other slower ones will do as well, but 2207 was the only powder that got a 400gr projie over 2000fps. I reckon try that powder and use the 400gr data.

Call Woodleigh or email them and they will send you the load data
as some of it was worked up by a mate and I.

Welcome back HB. long time
hope all the family are good and healthy and we see you round here more often.

there is a bloke in NSW called the bullet factory who makes some ripper .45 cal projectiles

Con is using some in his .45 cal monster of a rifle

Jason is the guys name- just cannot find the link to his website ATM

maybe con has it bookmarked

just another option if the woodleigh's dont turn out ok

Buff buster has used some in his 45/70 if Iremember correctly- but with my head who knows if I have or not

G’day Andree good to see ya back
Im my 45-70 I like usein 2206H for the heavier pills it fills up the case nice and I get fairly impressive (for me) groups with it at 100, I only have a 1-4x on it but it will put every pill into 2” the woodleighs are flamin excellent and you will be happy, Ill also load 2206H for 350’s and will flip over to 2207 for 300’s which I don’t really use in it any more
405fn woodleighs & 54grns 2206H
350 & 59gns 2206H
300 & 59gns 2206H (mild practise load) or 60.5 of 2207 (which is hot) and about my max load for the light pills
You may get them to fly faster and flatter etc with some more development but I haven’t seen the need as the above 350 and 405 loads do all I need out to 100-150mtrs and are very nice to shoot and easy on the rifle

All the best
John

Welcome back!

Assuming you have a Marlin in 45-70, I can provide some info. I had two 405gr loads for the Marlin 1895SS. One for cast lead and the other for Remington FP. The cast lead load was based on the original 1873 ballistics, but acted like a wad punch on pigs (405gr Cast Lead, 31grs AR2207 for 1330ft/s). The other load was "lively" and would be suitable for your Woodleighs;

405gr Remington FP, 52grs AR2206 (CCI 250 Mag primer) for 1865ft/s.

As AR2206 is no longer available, try 53-55grs of AR2206H. The usual warning, watch for pressure sign.

When I had a Marlin I used AR2208 to create some knee-wobbling loads with 400gr Speer projectiles. Lever would self open and I'd barely cleared 1800fps. The 45/70 is not a cartridge that needs speed to be effective. Be careful of using data generated with Remington 405gr projectiles as they can be a bit undersized at times.
Cheers...

G,day all
It's nice to be back !! and good to see some of the same names around :D
I E-mailed woodleigh ,they reccomended Adi powders
Had a look at Adi powders site and thinking of using the AR2207 powder !
Thought about the AR2206h but want to push this projectile at at least 1800fps (should hit nice and hard)
But will be taking notes of other folks loads ,
Yes you guessed right , its a 1895 lever action marlin !

Thanks
Andree
