Before I rush out and buy one can anybody tell me what is the dia of the ball on your one, I would like to measure down to 17?
Or do I make myself a stand to use a dial indicator. Main criteria is it is imperial.

Re: Ball Micrometer
I hope I have misread this, but you need a micrometer to measure your balls?
Crikey.

Re: Ball Micrometer
Had this a few years now. I use it for jacket thickness measurements. It will NOW do 17 cal. The ball measured .175" when new but 30 seconds in the lathe with some fine wet / dry brought it down to.169"
I think Sinclair's do a nice one out of the states.

Re: Ball Micrometer
I have one of those somewhere didn't rate it as it tended to be inconsistent, maybe I should try and find it though I have a feeling I threw it in the bin.billsshed wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2019 9:26 am Had this a few years now. I have not found it inconsistent, if anything it has proved very reliable. You do have to keep it clean and free from anything that would gum it up. It is defiantly good to the .001”. It is the only ball / digital micrometer that I have.
My projectile mics are to the .0001.

Re: Ball Micrometer
I made it my business to find my green sinclairs calipers/ ball thickness gauge, found the readout jumping all over the show would not zero or measure any movement on the spindle and this is why I didn't use it any more as it is obviously faulty.

Just use a dial indicator on your neck turner.

Re: Ball Micrometer
That's how I've always done it but the only problem is I don't want to move the cutter I'll build something to hold a mandrel and dial indicator.kickinback wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2019 6:12 pm Just use a dial indicator on your neck turner.
