I dont own a 17AH but there is an article in issue 39 of Guns & Game. Cases look fairly easy to form with just two necking steps to a case ready to load and fireform. Do not know of any source for new formed cases.

Cheers

17 Ackley Hornet

Perfect for rabbits and foxes out to 200m. Runs out of puff for foxes further out unless you poke them them in the head. 20 grain Vmax @3800fps (11.5gn AR2205) is very flat and will stay inside a large rabbit. Similiar trajectory to a .223 pushing a 40gn @3800 fps but is uses significantly less than half the amount of powder and much less noise.

I am using Redding dies. Forming brass is not hard. I suggest you check out Varmint Al's website for technique. I do anneal the brass as per Varmit Al. Note that you don't need both Redding form dies as the number 2 die has the same diemensions as the Redding seater die. The instructions that come with the number 1 die confirm this.

I used a 1964 Brno hornet (ZKW) that had been converted to a .22K hornet. The action had been bedded including steel pillars and barrel floated. I ended up mailing the barreled action to MAB who fitted one of their barrels. They mailed the rebarreled action back to me. Easy. I don't know if they trued it at all but it does group nicely. I did replace the firing pin spring as I was getting some misfires using the rem 7.5 primers.

It still amazes me how far out it reaches accurately using such a small amount of powder.

If I did the project again I would use a lighter barrel. My MAB is a straight tapper to .8" at the muzzle. I would also avoid the ZKW double set trigger set up. I have seen one converted to a crisp single trigger.

you only form the brass once. I just did 300 17mach fireball out of 221 rem , neck turned, whole nine yards. A pain but should last near as long as the barrel.

17 AH has a lot of fans.
