.222 projectiles

Post by flyer »

I want to float a survey out there to see what is the favoured weight and brand projectile for the humble .222 rem.

I keep coming back to Sierra 52gr HPBT.

50gn nosler shot works well for me. a 50gn nosler bt works even better but the shots work good and are cheap!

I use any 50gr or 55 gr that I can get cheap. They seem to kill just as good as the expensive ones.

Flyer, those 52gn Sierra's are a great projectile. I also like the Hornady 50gn SX and Remington 45gn HP pills as well. These are very explosive on rabbit or cat sized targets but lack penetration on larger game.

Any of the ballistic tipped bullets work for me. I've found little difference in the brands (Vmax most explosive, and Nosler least) and use them across the board, with any of my 22 centrefires. I use the different coloured tips to differentiate loads.

Mate of mine wont use anything but the Combined Technology 40gr silver BT. Must admit its pretty damn accurate, rifle is a tikka 595.
