Useless information

Post by Brad Y »

a 58gr 6mm Zmax has a hollow point of 93 thou under that plastic tip. And they look a whole lot more evil than the purple nosler ballistic tips. Hopefully tomorrow will see if the Zmax shoot as good as the noslers. If so its time to cough up some $

Ill have to agree with you Brad, that IS useless information.

I use the 32gn Zmax and 32gn Nosler in my 20/222, they both shoot exactly the same point, and I think the Noslers are slightly infront in accuracy, but there is only a bees dick in it. I like the look of the Noslers better, shape wise, dunno why, they just look more streamlined. But for splat value, and pretty colouring, the Zmax wins. I haven't tested them on targets out at any distance, but they both drop foxes and cats at extended ranges. Really cant pick the difference in performance. Zmax makes a bit bigger exit as well, when there is one. :D

Yeh mate the Vmax/Zmax is a more explosive pill. Interestingly the nosler tips dont pull out, but the hornady do fairly easily. Its a ripper of a hollow point and easy to see why they explode. Its purely a cost exercise trying them out. $110 for 500 compared to 50 for 100. Handy thing about the BR, it will shoot just about anything into a bughole.

Yeah mate, I know all about the costs, cant remember what the Noslers cost, something like 80 bucks for 250, the Zmax come in at 88 per 500, close enough for half price. I just got another 2000 of them for the 20 cal, that should last this barrel.

I was asked the other day what I reckoned the 168gn 30 cal Zmax would be like, I haven't tried them, but reckon they would go alright as well.

Looked at them and JeffK's place the other day. We both suspect they are the same as the 168Amax but with a green tip. No zombies around to test whether the red or green tip is better.

Just some more useless info. When the rally spotlight driver was convinced to slow down last weekend young Keith completely discombooborated a rabbit with a 125gn NBT from his 308. The head was attached to the skin and the back feet where also attached but everything else was missing. Like gone. No insides no skeleton. Our rally driving farmer was flabbergasted. "I've never seen anything like that, bits of that animal are completely missing"

And now for the useless info. He reached down to pick up the skin and picked up the little green tip from the pill that stayed inside the empty rabbit skin.

See, told you I could do useless. My dog just farted far kits rank

Well there ya go, I thought that the Zmax would be closer to the Vmax rather than the Amax :?:

I think they can be either...the size gave me a hint.

Hornady don't do a .308" 168gn VMAX, and they don't do a 6mm 58gn AMAX, nor .204" 32gn and 40gn AMAX's either....so I thought they probably just changed the tip colour in a run of hatever, and labelled them ZMax. Sectioning the AMAX seemed to bear that theory out, but I haven't got any comparable VMAX to do the same with for the smaller stuff.

58gr Zmax shot a 0.3" 3 shot group at 100yds off the bipod in rapidly dying light. 5 thou further out in seating depth and they will be under 1/4MOA I reckon. Will be ordering more. Load is 34gr of 8208 and a FGMM primer in lapua 6BR brass.
