MODEL70,
Thanks for that. I just wanted to know if it was an accuracy thing or the terminal effect. That's great if the bullet carries both characteristics.
At what speed are you sending them down?
I may get some and give them a go.
Regards,
Lindsay.

Gold Coast Shooters Supplies carry them - but they seem to have been doing a runout of them lately so am not sure if they still do.jeffk wrote:I'm still trying to find a source - where do you get them from?HiWall wrote:I like Berger bullets, dear as poison, hard to get, but they are extremely accurate and explosive on impact.
I use 55gr VMAX in the .223 (Slightly better than Nosler BT's in that rifle)and 58gr VMAX or 70gr Berger MEF in the .243
Sorry champ dont own a chrony but they are loaded pretty hot at 36.6gn of 2208 with no pressure signs, 0.1 gn over max, according to Uncle Nick. CAUTION excersized at all times of course whilst developing this load.Divey wrote:MODEL70,

Went to the local Gun shop this morning and asked for some .224 Cal 55 grain V Max.MODEL70 wrote:My new favourite ones are the .224 V Max 55gn....
The owner told me that he did not have any, but, he said he had some Nosler .224 Cal 55 grain Ballistic Tip bullets. Then he stated that Hornady copied the Nosler Ballistic Tip to create their V Max. Any comments on that?
Anyway, I bought a box of 100 for $39.00.
I'll give them a try next weekend.
Regards,
Lindsay.

That is a bit of a stretch mate - Nosler copied the plastic insert idea from Norma. You could go on and on. The Ballistic Tip and the AMax have a different ogive, probably different alloy composition in the core and jacket, different chemical composition for the plastic insert.
It is certain that Nosler were not the ones to come up with the plastic tip concept.
The old 'chicken or egg' trick.
Dealers will say almost anything to get a sale!

I like the Hornady SPSX (super explosive) projectiles in 50 gn for my .223. They are cheap, accurate & very effective.
I originally got them for my 22/250 (the dill at HPGS told me they were OK for it), but after an email enquiry to Hornady (quick response too), found out that they aren't suitable for the higher 3800+fps velocities, but are designed for the 3200fps .223 speed.
I also reckon the V-max are as good as the ballistic tips, but are far better value, which is why I also use them.....Very accurate bullets
