c'mon everybody, there must be someone here with a big banger that can help
Failing that look up the adi handloaders site and check the data for your calibre.
I tend to do my load development on the powder that shows the highest velocity for my chosen pill but then I use pip squeak calibres compared to yours!

Re: need some advice please
Just working up a load for mine...have them all loaded up. Hornady's manual shows 64-74gn of H4895 (AR2206H in Hodgdon form) so I've started somewhere above min with mine and I have found reference to loads hotter than this too.
2206H seems to be the powder of choice from speaking to a few people with them, but I will also try RL15 when my LGS gets some in!
I use the Hornady dies and hate the combined crimp and seater...don't know if the Redding is better or the same, but I'll be ordering a Lee 458WM crimp die and see if that will work.

hi jeffk and trevort
thanks for the reply I have found a little info on the net (nothing on the 458 lott in any adi books or sites ) a little info avalible in the latest nick Harvey book and also at my lgs using ar2206h 74grains for 2175fps to 79g for 2325fps and h4064 (ar2208) 73g for 2128fps to 78g for 2274fps
I was going to try the start load for h4064 and go from there as I though that 2206h might be too fast and also very sharp with the recoil but at this stage very open to suggestions
cheers for the replies fellas

Re: need some advice please
I ran 2219 and RL7 in my 458WM and both were horrible compared to 2206H. Looks like the Lott will work with a slightly slower powder to, hence me getting some RL15 too. Have shot one at the club with 2206H, but with 400gn'ers and not max, and it was quite mild (comparatively speaking).
Re: need some advice please
I don't think it would matter what you loaded into a 458lott case the recoil would still have your undivided attention ...lol

Trust me, there is a huge difference between 400gn at 2100fps and 500gn doing the same.....as to 500gn at 2250-2300 with the Lott at full noise, well, I have yet to experience that!

500 grain factory hornady dgs are not for the inexperienced ....hold on tight and ride the lightening lol
Re: need some advice please
I am just about to work up some loads for my 458 lott, so i will let you know how I go........I am interested in perfecting some loads for off hand shooting over medium distances in particular.
My rifle is a Cristensen Arms with a Carbon fibre barrel and synthetic stock, and only weighs in just a touch over 6lbs, so you get used to the recoil after a while

I weighed it down with the Swarovski mate lolol
And yes......it kicks me harder than any other big bore hunting rifle I own including the 460 wby Mag and 577NE the only thing that comes close is hot loads in my 416 rigby....it gives you a shake as well haha
Just looked at the picture and I have changed the mounts to some Talley's since this was taken
