22-250 advice.

just starting to handload for the first time and was after some advice on some of you guy's pet loads for a 250.my rifle is a ruger m77r.

My advice to you is to get the most accurate load not the fastest! Use 50 or 55gn pills.

I have a very modest load of 33gns of 2206 behind a 55gn Nosler SHOTS.
This was the first load I ever developed so I was very modest!

Have fun and be safe mate the 22-250 is a great cartridge!!!

trade it in for a 204 and then try 27.9gns of 2206h behind the 39gn BK

fishlips,

Reference your load data and find the powder that gives the closest to a 100% load density, this will usually be the slowest burning powder for that calibre.

Advantages are the slower burning powder usually burns cooler ??? (really it does) and ideally you want as close as possible to a full case of powder .. (I know this is not always practile but its best practice)

Fishlips, nothing wrong with the 250, it is a great cartridge.

I load;
34gr BM2 for the 50gr Nosler Ballistic Tip @ 3820fps
34.5gr of AR2208 for the 55gr Sierra SPT @ 3550fps

Both are great varminting loads. The 55gr have accounted for plenty of pigs and a fallow hind as well.

In the earlier days i also loaded the 63gr Sierra SP with 33gr BM2 @3475fps

Good luck with the reloading, post your results when you find the right load.

G'day Fish, I load 33gns of 2206 with a 52 gn Nosler SHOT HPBT or 38 gns of W760 with the same projectile, both give me groups under the .5" @ 100. Thats shooting out of a Rem VSF.
I still need to do heaps of load development though, because these loads are not going much faster than my .223.

if i had a squillion dollars i would have one of everything available but i'm happy with what ive got.i'm just a hunter,not a paper junkie and a good safe load is what im chasing.thanks for your advice guys,much appreciated.

AR2208 has been the powder that has given me the best results in .22/250 in both Ruger and Savage rifles and also T/C Encore single shot pistol with 16" barrel.

2208, 2206 and 2206h was how my weatherby 250 prefered the feed!

Fishlips, it was a joke!!

Anyway, my 250 fires light 6mm projies. It seems to like 2208 better but the one and only time I chrono the loads 2206h was giving higher velocity.
Yeah, I know not much help as its a different calibre but its the same case and seems to be backing up what others have experienced
