ADI 2206H
ADI 2206H
Reloaded a mix of 50,52 & 55 gr projectiles using 2206h near max and found when cleaning the barrel was filthy? Anyone else had this problem, ive found 2208 followes closely by 2206 burns really clean but 2206h was shocking??? Any ideas?

Im no expert but maybe its because the 2206H is a slightly slower powder and hence leaves more residue in the barrel,2206H as I understand is mainly used for smaller calibres with a smaller powder weight enabling a cleaner burn, maybe if you had to use that powder what would happen if you went to a small rifle magnum primer, would it burn cleaner.
I dont know.???

I brought some 2206H because I had heard it gave better velocitys than Benchmark1 in .223 with projectiles around the 50gn mark.
Not for me it didn't, pressure signs occured well under the velocity the benchmark1 can acheive.
So as I gave up on it I guess I can't comment too much on its cleanleness, except to say that I have read in many places that 2208 is known for its exceptional clean burning. I use 2208 in my faster twist .223 to drive 75gn pills

I found in the 22-250 that at certain loads it was filthy beyond
belief, with slightly more pressure it was ok, and in the 6-250 its
clean as..
I think you might just want to explore a hotter or colder load, WITHIN
SAFE BOUNDS, that might resolve the issue, otherwise you might have
to either live with the filth (which i did in the 22-250) or switch powders.

I think Arch has a handle on the problem from his post. I have always found that light loads with any powder burn dirtier than max loads.
If you are using the loads from a manual as your max loads, it is likely that you are well under max for your rifle. I would work up a bit hotter and see what happens.
