Looking to get the factory varmint barrel running on my remington action again. I had a 110gr vmax load running a while back but never got into shooting bunnies with a cannon at night. So thinking I might make a daytime longer range putting holes in things load. Thinking shooting 300m plus. Will probably look at a mil dot reticle or BDC type reticle in a new scope for it shortly, something in the 4-16 power range.
Bullets of choice so far are what I think would probably be suited to the application. Obviously if Im peppering long shots at rabbits and foxes, I expect the odd one to pencil. But sheer kinetic shock should make up for that I would think.
Aussie 155gr HBC- Cheap, good BC and I know the bullet is capable of great accuracy. Unsure if they will open up though.
Nosler 168gr CC- The nosler jackets seem fairly thin and may open up better than the sierra matchking
Hornady 168gr Amax- Plastic tip match bullet rated by alot of hunters as a good light game bullets
Nosler 168gr BT- Awesome BC but unsure if they would open up much
Nosler 165gr Accubond- The white tip just looks cool and the 140gr accubonds have done awesome damage to foxes in a 6.5x284 that I have seen.
Anyone loaded a 308 for longer range hunting and plinking and have experience to share?

Re: 308 long range varmint/hunting load
I used to use 125 grn Nosler Ballistic Tips for the majority of my hunting when I lived around Bathurst in the 90's. They can be loaded to shoot super flat and were devastating on rabbits, foxes, goats, pigs and the occasional deer. I know they are a bit expensive but they certainly gave me fantastic results.

I use the Dyer HBC 155gn in my 30-06 . . awesome damage to the other side of a wild dog, verry effective on pigs too, and down home on the farm its devestating on rabbits and foxes.
