ADI Benchmark 8208
Re: ADI Benchmark 8208
Just been reading a review in the latest sporting shooter magazine about BR8208. It states in the article this powder has similar burning rate to 2208, yet when i look on the ADI website it rates slower than BM2 but faster than 2206. Whats peoples experience with this powder so far.
Im thinking of trying it in my two fly rifles, but thinking it may be a bit too fast.
* First rifle is a 6.5x47L using 123gr projectiles.
* Second one is a 6x47L using 107gr projectiles.
Whats your thoughts... cheers Allen

Re: ADI Benchmark 8208
I am going to try it in the 223, 338 Fed and 7-08. I agree that it is too fast for the heavier pills in the 6x47L, but it could work well with the lighter ones.

Re: ADI Benchmark 8208
Tried it in the 20 practical tonight with 39gr SBK's and CCI450 primers. Started at 25.5 (had to work on internet load suggestions for 20TAC) and 25.5 and 25.8 seemed fairly mild with recoil and rifle flip (not that there is much) 3 shot groups were all around the half inch mark as we have some pretty serious northerlies over here at the moment. 26 grains changed it though with 2 in one hole and a third hole exactly to the left (wind picked up) but dead flat group under half inch. I could also feel the rifle recoil through a bit nicer and a mate watching said he could see it move a little more at the muzzle. The whole thing just felt like it worked real nice with this load. I will load up a heap more and have a play around when the front has passed through and see just how accurate it is and what velocity it runs at.

Re: ADI Benchmark 8208
so do you guys reckon this is going to be THE powder for small case/long bullet loads?
I'm actually wondering if it will work with my 9.3X62...

Re: ADI Benchmark 8208
No but I reckon it will be a GOOD powder for 223, 204, 22-250, 308 etc with LIGHT BULLETS. Read the ADI data to check on your own calibres and bullet weights.

Re: ADI Benchmark 8208
Did some playing with my chrony this morning at the range.
With 26gr of 8208, rem 223 cases necked to 20 cal, cci 450's and 39gr sierra blitzkings my first shot was 3906fps. The following shots lowered a little with average speed on two separate strings around 3880fps.
I dont care what you say, a 39gr SBK at that speed is going to shoot HARD AND FLAT
Might have to go and terrorize a local bunny patch this arvo!

Re: ADI Benchmark 8208
Well I wont comment as thats over max load but let your gun tell you pressures and if you get that high I reckon it will be pretty similar.
This powder has definitely levelled the 204 and 20 prac out performance wise.
And the application for time off to go bunny shooting was duly denied. It shall be applied for again this week as I have to go to perth for social stuff on the coming weekend.

Re: ADI Benchmark 8208
don't worry brad, i will work up a load. too many other projects atm to fix something that's not broken. 28.1gr of 2206H is really giving me good groups, lost my chrono data on it though.

Re: ADI Benchmark 8208
Field test on bunnies tonight. Rifle shoots flatter, hits alot harder (you can hear the whop on bunnies alot more) and launched quite a few of them further back from their spot or up in the air. Actually hit one on a vineyard and it pink misted the growing vines and landed on the other side of the row. Dont mind a bit of bunny protein in my wine thank you very much.
Two thumbs up for me!

Re: ADI Benchmark 8208
My best load in the 17REM is 24gn of 2208 with 25gnHP (3/4"). I would be keen to hear how the 8208 goes!
