Are there any scopes with a power range higher than 12x without a parallax adjustment knob?
I like the VX1 4-12 but hate using a friends 6-24 with the parallax. Nick Harvey wrote about some, but didnt mention any brands. Any ideas?

I don't know what you don't like about parallax knobs. No one says you have to use them. Most higher powered scopes without parallax adjustment knobs are set at 100 yards or meters. Just leave the adjustment on 100.

Exactly.
If you get a higher power scope that is only good at 100m what use it the higher power.
I have a 6-18x Bushnell trophy on my 223, when spotlighting i put it in between 100yards and 150yards this covers most shots and it generally stays there. I only need to adjust when i am shooting on high powers (during the day). This scope goes down to 10m (IIRC), i might put this on my 17HMR coz its got a 6-18x nikon monarch that only goes down to 50yards.

Set it where you want it and leave it.

Ok, maybe I was missing something while using it. It took alot of adjusting to get a clear picture when changing between targets from 150m to 250. Even with it set on infinity or whatever it is. Maybe the scope was rooted. So, I should be able to set it at 100 and forget it and still have a clear sight picture???

Dunno how right I am, there may be somthing wrong with what I do, but Most of my shooting os 150 to 200m so ive got mine set around 175m... Just remember though, that the numbers on the tube are not always perfect, so find a target at the distance you will shoot most and set it for that while looking through..

although paralax is set to 100m/y on fixed scopes and you can see fine through ie the recticle is not in parallax for other distances.

With a an Adjustable Objective or side focus you are adjusting the focus of the image you see and not the recticle.
ie you are adjusting the scope focus to a distance so you can see a clear image - and this then sets the recticle parallax correctly to that distance.

But as Rumpas has said he sets his to a mid point of 175m - and he will still see the image through the scope ok at 150 or 200m to shoot... but at 50m or 300m he will have to adjust the focus.

Your on the money

Its actually very confusing, Parallax has nothing to do with a clear image. Parallax is the apparent shift of the target in relation to the reticle as you move your eye from the centre of the eyepiece to either side. Its caused by the target image being formed either before or after the reticle. A good scope will form the image in the middle of the reticle. I dont mean middle when you look through the scope but middle if you looked down through your scope from above

If you look through a scope and see a blurry image, that doesnt mean you have parallax, Too see if you have parallax you actually have to start moving yours eye from the centre of the eye lense and move it outwards towards the edge of the scope. If the target moves while you are doing this then thats parallax. If it doesnt, then you dont have parallax.

But it still maybe out of focus. But then again, a perfectly sharp image may still be suffering from parallax.

Flame jacket on.

Leupold make a 4.5-14x40 with pre-set parallax - don't know what distance it is corrected for parallax at, but there is nothing to fiddle about with.

Thank you HiWall, looks good! (and expensive)
