Hi
There was a magazine article in an AU magazine recently- well some time in the last 12 months anyway.

The bench plans incorporated removable bench top panels that held different press' and other things on their own insert panels.
in the article they provided plans on how to go about building this style of benchtop.

Does anyone here remember that article??

Does anyone know which magazine it was in-

Has any1 tried to make a bench like this??
How did it go??

How long did it take you to build??

Did it work as expected?? Has it been as functional as expected??

what I'm doing now and it shit me to tears
I'm reloading on a computer bench with my press screwed to some 90x45 and then the 90x45 is held down to the computer bench with 2 fast clamps.

It's an absolute shit arrangement

I have to build a new computer station so I was going to make it a computer bench that I could use for reloading with the removable inserts to hold the press

I have limited space to make both things work and have to make the best use of my space.

I have sold off a shit load of rifles over the last few years and I only have 4-5 that I load for I don't need a whole heap of gear anymore. I only use 2 powders these days - a few die sets and a powder thrower don't take up much space.
The press and the solid mounting of it is the main problem.
maybe this will work- if it doesn't I'll just glue the removable bits into place and fit some captive nuts to screw an external board to.

The area I have to make the bench is 1300mm long by the wall height and I have to fit a snot box, bits and pieces and AIO printer/copier and reloading gear in that space.

I like the idea of the one with the morticed/bevel cut boards rather than the one with the stepped boards and multiple layers to the bench top- not from a strength point of view- but from a dumb arse like me has a chance of making it POV.

Once all the gear is sorted any excess will be for sale/trade on here.

I think I need to get my hands on a sliding compound miter saw- should take a lot of the " Ogre cannot cut straight" out of the equation.

I was thinking of making the top out of concrete form ply- the stuff used for face form work- should give a nice sealed benchtop.

or do you guys have a better suggestion for benchtop material??

Remembering that I have lung cancer- what brand or type of face mask/filter do you guys suggest I should use to help protect my lungs as much as possible from the saw dust and sandings that a job like this will need.

Hi Ogre, I have the mounting holes drilled into our computer desk...3 coach bolts and 2 minutes with a shifter and the Partner press is solidly mounted and ready for work...The desk is homemade from formwork ply with the coating sanded off.
I used to have a piece of steel drilled and tapped, with it's own G clamp type arrangement welded to it. Good but limited in how thick it could clamp to.

I would consider getting the bench that you want made by a Cabinet maker or such.You might say too expensive but by the time you buy the right tools and materials (sometimes Cabinet makers will get a better price or have surplus stock) and the time wasted building it (when you could be reloading) or the most important thing your health concerns. I understand you get a pride of ownership when you build something but you will soon get over out shooting.
PS Im not a cabinet maker (Electrician)

I knocked up an ok bench in my garage using timber from Bunnings that was already cut to length. No sanding and messing around, I just screwed it together. I'll post a photo if I can.
