I am thinking of putting a Leopold VLX 6-20x56 on it. Has any one had experience with this scope. To be used at night for fox and cats.Or maybe a vx-7 4.4-18x56.

I would say the Leupold VX-L is a quality bit of kit but at $1,099 USD and the VX-7 at $1600 + USD is way too much for a Leupold.

If you want to spend big coin on a scope I would suggest either Schmidt & Bender (arguably the best in the world) or Nightforce.

Personnally I would have a long hard look at the Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 at $786.95 AUD or Leupold VXIII 6.5-20x50 for $880 USD as I am sure they would both meet all your needs.

I have a VX111 6.5-20x40 sitting waiting for mine and a 4200 elite 6-24x50 (new shorter side focus model) waiting for my 17 Mach Fireball.

The loopy was ordered when it was going to be a light varmint walk around but now its a heavy varmint in an A5 I am thinking the 4200 looks a bit more "tacticool" and may match the stock better.

I always got excited about larger objectives for spotlighting but in reality your target is in the centre of a bright light and dont really know that you need it.

My loopy cost $800 to my door when our dollar was worth a lot less and the 4200 has to be amongst the best value on TOZ site.

If you have the money for super top scopes why use a rem action, order a full custom instead!

The scopes listed are 50mm objectives mate, as such the prices are higher (I got the Leupold prices from TOZ website) and the Vortex price from http://www.vortexoptics.com.au/

I like the idea of having a 56 objective mounted low as you would with a 40. I use a piece of red celephane that you get from craft shops tapped over spotlight. So the bigger objective helps. I have used a 3200 and 4200 and could not see any difference. Both great scopes.

I wasn't really impressed by the performance of the VX-L in a reveiw i read. The POI shifted about 3/4 MOA through the power scale, not good enough for a scope with that pricetag IMO.
Sounds like a lovely rifle! Can't wait to see pics.

I the scope I use and would buy again is the 6.5-20x40EFR leupy. Can be fitted from everything from an air rifle to LR target rifle, done both!

As for varminting, I had the straight 6.5-20x40 on my 22-250 and it was superb, not to big, excellent optics, and most importantly did not change the point of impact when zooming up or down.

The differences between the 2 are the EFR has parallax adjustment down to 10m and has target turrets, which I prefer. And the EFR can be found locally for less than $1000-. Which I believe your getting a lot of scope for that price.

Just out of interest, why has nobody mentioned personal imports of Vortex scopes? I've just found a US website from where it would appear I could get this Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 scope for about $630AUD delivered.

Mind you, my biggest issue with this scope, and also with the Leupold of the same size, is the "target turrets". For a working gun they look like they'd get in the way and get caught on things, though I've never used a scope with tall turrets so I don't know for sure.... It looks like the "biggest" scope I can get, from either company, with short turrets is a 4.5-14x50

Rinso, we are ending up having a bloody debate. the last comment wasnt aimed at you, it was letting the author know I have a balanced opinion on the quality of loopys (even tho I havent used it yet).
