ATN X-Sight 4k Pro 5-20 IR torch test

The final piece of the IR puzzle arrived late last week, a working IR laser diode emitter for a Ultima-NV T38 XL torch.
Took it out last night to Majura to do final comparison test of the standard IR torch supplied with the scope, the HoundLight (in IR configuration) as put together by our very own Foxfire, a Dereelight Nightmaster V2 IR and the Ultima-NV T38 XL IR laser diode emitter (direct from the UK).
Photos below show them left to right as listed above.
The video below shows each torch in the same order as listed above. Out of all 4 torches the Houndlight and T38 XL I think are the pick with maybe the T38 having a slight edge. I have a sneaking suspicion there’s one more power level up on the T38 but I’ll have to test that out again to be sure. Time will tell I guess as to which one gets used the most.

Hope this helps out anyone thinking of getting into this sort of equipment.

Yeah, I’m pretty impressed with the range.
Lol. Only on AHN will you find reference to the Houndlight. Foxfire had quite a few made up a year or so back.

I had a few batches made up to my specs - changeable LED modules in red, green and white.
And then I had the IR Oslon Black modules made up after testing by a couple of blokes on AHN who had NVG.
The beauty being of course you can change to whatever LED you like in the field, tool free.

great idea, I wonder if the different colours would be better on foggy nights and if so which one ??? I found when spot lighting which this is not, well sort of not, that when the foxes got wary of a white light I used the red filter and they used to just sit there and wait for me to shoot them !!!!
well most of the time !!!

I think Red would be better for foggy nights. Great distance with the coloured leds as well as it’s only putting out red light. Can easily see and identify targets out to 150 yards. Eyeshine is easy 500 yards.

There are a few factors at work with the coloured LED's.
First and foremost, there are no coloured LED's to match the power and range of the best white LED's like the Cree XP-L Hi and XHP-35 Hi, which can pump out 1000 - 1500 lumens or more and with a tight focus by default.
The red and green Cree XP-E2 are basically the best coloured LED's and run out of puff at 300 - 400 lumens at the very most.
Though with an aspheric lens the range is still decent.
The green actually has two things going for it - it actually has higher output than the red, and our own eyes see more of the green wavelengths than we do the red. 200m shots on the likes of foxes with the green are no big deal. It will also make fox eyes pop right out from a long way off. As a scanning light for eyeshine it's excellent and also as the LED only runs at around 1.4A a single 18650 battery lasts about 2.5 hours or 3 hours for the likes of a 3400mah units.
As I understand it, foxes see less of the red and so won't be as aware they are being lit up so it's less likely to spook them.
Red will also show up rabbit eyes better than anything else.
I've tried white, green and red side by side and when it comes to rabbits red will make their eyes pop better than the others.
On a night with a bright moon, red looks very weak and washed out.

Can you give an update on how the X sight 4 k pro performs for you and which IR emitter is working the best. Does the laser work better in the field than the led torches?
