Hi guys,

I'm blowing a few hours in chadstone while I'm waiting for Apple to replace a screen and stubmled across some superc knives at "king of knives". It was a surprise as I haven't seen any for ages, the lady in the shop said they got a small shipment of them. She didn't know if any laws have changed but they had them so I had to grab one.

I got the plain blade version of Delica 4

Good stuff, the Delica should be a vey handy knife. Like my Spyderco knives.

Unique to American manufacturers, Spyderco and their Australian Distributor (Zen Imports) has worked with Customs to identify specific knives that can be imported. Those that did not pass this test, but had a strong market in Australia before the latest interpretations are being constructed into an 'Australia' model which will not be openable in one hand movement. Kinda like a half-cock position.

I have a couple of Spydercos and rate them highly.

Knife rules are so stupid, worse thing is it is customs making the rules up not our legislators..

For some reason the interpretation of 'one handed opening' only applies to the larger blades. Living proof of stupidity breeding with ignorance.

Can someone direct me to our stupid knife rules?

I heard about this silly 'one handed opening' crap about the same time I bought my knife. Didn't let it bother me. I can open it one handed (various methods) and it's still imported and sold here. So, I guess it's legal.

So when does one of man's most common tools become a weapon?

Are they designed for a specific purpose in mind or a general duties type knife?

MInes a general purpose folding knife. Surprised I still have it after it did a 400K trip inside an engine bay...thought I had lost it for good (after finally getting a decent edge on it).

Remember, this is only Australian Customs Import laws. Each state has their own Weapons act and they vary from State to State!

Hi Guys

Here is my new Spyderco Salt rigged to go Fishing.

The Salt is very similar to a Delica 4 only it is made from H1 steel that will not rust!

It has a 2 1/8" X 1 3/8" (54 mm X 34mm) hard mono cellular fishing float attached to it by a short Lanyard of Hutchie cord. This means it can be stored in the pocket of my wet gear and still be readily available when needed. The float hangs from the pocket and makes it easy to grab and if by accident I managed to clumsy the knife and it took a drink, it would not be lost.




This knife is now my EDF! My Every Day Fishing knife!!

So why have any specific laws on objects? If it's used as a weapon it's a weapon, otherwise who gives a flying...

FFS 148 pages, and then I have to add any state bullshit?

As this relates to customs, I must assume that these upstanding, professional fellows have already stopped anything illegal from entering the country.

So, if it's here it must be legal....and I can ignore all their crap.
