Ok my contract with Telstra ran out a few months ago.
So which mobile phone do you blokes recommend
The front runners are
Iphone 5s or Samsung Galaxy 5
I love the screen resolution of the Samsung as well as the Camera
But I have Itunes account with multiple APPS
I appreciate your thoughts.

Push feed or controlled round feed. Either way, you know how to start a shit fight.

Personally I despise Apple . .
Hate having one singular company dictate what products I can use.
I have the Samsung S4 and love it.
Can find a lot of APPS for Android, however they are not interchangeable with Apple.
If you cant be arsed getting new apps - then stay with an Apple.

It would have to be a CRF Tikkinback just for when things go wrong

[/quote] I tried that mate but the twine kept on getting tangled up in the Duals.
Not sure cannot be arsed is the right term Dave it is really I no nothing about Android.

Now that you own the phone, why not pop into Aldi and get onto one of their cheaper contracts?
Still carried by Tel$tra, but without the $$$$.
This coming from a bloke who has an Android 2.4 phone that is still working well. When it dies, then I will work out what to buy.

I say dump Telstra if you can- but rural areas sometimes have no choice but to support them.
Apple- I hate the proprietary connections, proprietary software and being locked down. As a 100% Linux user they are next to useless. Simple things like tethering on an Apple to a laptop is a pain in the butt.
Galaxy S3/S4 gets the thumbs up if you can life with the minimal battery life. But hey- you can carry a spare battery.
If you old phone isn't locked and works fine- why not go prepaid?
I'm on an "Optus based" carriers $40 a month unlimited calls and SMS's with 4Gb of data.

For what it's worth, we were with Virgin which resells Optus, 30k's in a straight line from Parliament House and no reception, so Telstra for rural coverage.
iPhones are not known for their rural reception capabilities, so Samsung of those 2 choices. I have a Samsung and you can plug an external antennae into them with a bit of tinkering. I can vouch that this adds about 2 bars to your signal. Youtube is your friend for that.
May not be an issue metropolitan downtown Yass, but just putting it out there.

The huge metropolis of Yass has good coverage from the major players mainly because of the proximity of the Hume Hiway.
But leave the town limits and Telstra is the only way to go.
I like the sound of the Samsung external aerial I may have to look into it.
The Apple 5s is supposedly a bluetick ph
Googled Android and found Android by Google

Have been with Android for almost 4 years, love the platform, its easy to learn and pick up whats what.
Currently have a galaxy note 5 as I look at plans in pdf etc for work so the bigger screen has been nice and the keyboard has numbers and letters all together no switching for numbers etc. Used to have a HTC Desire, was a top phone too but eventually the broken screen was beyond repair ...esp after I tried repairing it

.
I am with virgin (owned by optus) as Optus is the best network at home for me and generally I am in city area's when travelling and I couldn't afford a phone outright at the time or else I would have been with Amaysim! (Also resell optus network) . Recent trip to Melb from Newcastle seemed to have coverage most of the way...well my wife never complained of no service as she is with them too.
If your still happy with your phone then maybe stick with it, new Iphone coming out later this year. I am not an apple fan but not really a detractor, I like how with an android platform things like chargers from most other phones will work iphone means you need an iphone charger etc.
Just picked up four android $68 tablets for the kids to use on trips and when we need some peace and quiet, plenty of apps and they have got the hang of them pretty quick, ages from 2 -almost 8. It was a quiet car (except for the game noises) from Canberra to Benalla before easter.
Not sure I have helped

I do really like Android though haven't had any issue's with it yet. Yes Android is developed by Google it is free yep free software and each company often adds there little changes to it to suit there phone or desires.
