Lightweight hunting binoculars

What's everyone using for binoculars here, specifically those used for hunting?

I have a Nikon 'Action' 10x50 that I am quite pleased with but was looking for something that would be more handy to use.

I'm not looking for the best optical quality but I don't want a piece of cr*p either. Just something handy to use in the field.

Are any of the lower cheapies in the 8x26 range (or thereabouts) worth it?

I use Leica Ultravid HD 8x40's which are a nice allrounder light and compact for an 8x40. The Zeiss FL 8x30's are fantastic and weigh bugger all, there a better stalking bin than the full size 40's.

I didn't want to carry binos and range finder so I went with the leica geovids.

Geez guys, you all have deep pockets! The prices some of these bino's are at is astounding but, I accept that quality costs.

Any suggestions for the more financially challenged?

Ive got Bushnell legend xlt 10x32 compacts and they are quite bright with good clarity.A lot cheaper than zeiss, leica etc. But you definitely get what you pay for with optics.

I have been using the ZenRay ZRS 8x42 for a couple years and have been quite happy. They are comparibly small for an 8x40, but aren't going to fit in your pocket. A pretty good compromise of performance, size and price though.

I bought mine from camera land

plenty of reviews available on the various optics forums

I use Nikon Monach 8x42. I went for 42mm obj because I wasnt sure how the 30mm version would cope at dawn and dusk.

I have a pair of Vortex Viper 10x 32 bino's, for the price they are very clear and bright optically.
I can honestly recomend them as a good bush set.

Hope this is of assistance to you,

Mick
