I've been using a mk4 leupy for a while now in f-class and been happy with it ,but i would like to go higher in power.[fading eyesight ect]
has any body compared the mk4's to the competion scopes? the mk4 has a 50mm obj where as the competion scopes are only 40mm.
is there an obvious difference in clarity and light tranmission

G'Day Aus,
if your happy with the Mk4 stick with it (what power is it?) If you want to go to a higher power do consider the Nightforce BR models with 1/8 moa clicks, I've personally found they allow better centring of my group on the super v, for better scores.

Have a look at what the top shooters are using, there's usually a VERY GOOD reason for using the gear they own, usually quality, repeatablity, and clarity, I'd assume the MK4 has these features.

Leupold Competition scopes being fixed power do NOT allow you to wind back the power if the mirage is worse than your use to. If you go that way, I'd suggest the 35x Leupy competion Series as a maximum. I've used a straight 36x Bausch & Laumb and for me it was ok. It was only 40mm Obj. from memory.

My current scope is the 12-42x56mm NF BR model but I previously had a 8-32 BR model and only upped the power to enable me to compete in 500m fly shoots, the 8-32 was just about ideal for f class, you could also look at the 5.5-22NF NXS but it was only available with 1/4 moa clicks but I've since heard they can be ordered with 1/8 clicks.........you had better check this to be true

hope this helps

Cheerio Ned

I currently use a nxs 12-42x56 on the barney. Only used it twice thusfar. Had 2no br 8-32x56 and both failed [wont hold zero] within 6mths.bad batch? That's when i put the mk4 on with no probs at all. The reason for the fixed power ,Less things to go wrong. I was going to put it on my 6.5lap and use it for a dedicated fly rifle. Also i usually run with max power with no real drama.

I have been useing a Leupold 8.5-25 x 50 Long Range Target for several years without problems, I guess it depends how much magnification you want.

Never tried the loopys but the sightron SIII's are great and cheaper than the NF scopes
