For my Lightforce 240 I have it set up with plugs that allow me to use it on the mount or hand-held. These are waterproof (green bit is a rubber grommet), a lot smaller than the normal Anderson plugs and got them at my local auto-electrician.

Cammo I use the same plugs on my driving lights but for my spotlights I use Hella plugs.

Gidday Cammo. I've been thinking of getting a 240 for a while now. I currently use a 170. What do you think of the 240??

I love the 240

*For its size it is very light compared to a Powerbeam.
*Can be hand held or mounted in Support-a-Mount or roof bar.
*Beam gives a wide illuminated field of view.
*The beam from the 240 will reach further than I'll shoot at night.
*Good range of coloured covers (if you like them ).
*body won't rust.

I don't think you would be disappointed with the upgrade.

Nice and simple those automative connectors, most good ones are crimp as you need to pull 8+ amps down the cable.

Remember automotive light connectors are rarely rated above 10 amps so be careful. These connectors are about $15 a set.

XA coupe was impressed with my 1990's lighting kit using a 170mm scope mounted Lightforce and a 12v 7000mAh battery belt.



I have used the 4 pin XLR connectors - a standard solid connector used in the film and TV industry since portable lights were used.

12V is normally a 4 pin

3 pin is for audio, 5 pin is nominally a 24-30 V pack.

XLR connectors are lockable, robust and water resistant able to withstand apprentices. I have short, long, and a car battery cables.

Remember the covered protective sockets are ALWAYS the live connector end.
NEVER have a power connector with MALE pins exposed on your battery pack -its a socket you always use on your battery so it can't be shorted.

A 12v gel cell, NI-Cads or Li-MH do explode if shorted. think of that when you have a battery pack around your neck or waist.

Hideous's belt is a work of art. I would get one for myself except he has one and why would I want to carry it around myself when I have him !

Lightforce are a good light...but they are over priced peice of plastic..the companry i work for has them on the trucks. the lens dosnt like water inside for too long, stuffs the chrone. but they are also in weather all the time to

Then they aren't Lightforce but one of the poor copies. Check out the Lightforce website on how to spot the fakes.

I agree they are now too expensive - imagine not changing your basic designs for 20+ years.

Has anyone used one of the newer HID spots?

i LOVE MY SPOTLIGHT ! i have just purchased a handle for my scope mount style spot.

After 20+ years they focused on other things - lol pun intended.

HID has been around for 5+ years and the nicest upgrade they have done is add the LED walk lights for some of their range.

Their market share is limited due to cheap imports but people want to see new models - otherwise the car and TV industry would close.
