Have a look at an early model of the Jeep Wrangler as well.

It is heavier than the little suzy, but if you need to drive some distance before you can get on the property, the larger size is much nicer to travel in.

Windscreen folds down, full 4WD and softtop also available.

The Sierra or Holden drover are good reliable and capable little vehicles and I stress little.Another cheapish alternative could be the Diahatsu Feroza bit more room and better on road manners.

I had a Zookie Stockman for work for 4 years, it was ordinary on the Hwy, I would wind it up as I was getting over taken by a truck and hook up in his vacuum, that was the best way to drive into Wagga for the annual rego check. In the bush it will go absolutely any where, biggest complaint for shooting was that it was not as high as the Lux's, Nav's and triton's which means you cant see as far IMO.
The bloke across the river from us took the roof off and folded the screen down to take the kids spotlighting and had real troubles getting it back together and when he did he welded the clips in place cause they never held after the roof off/on episode.
The zook that I used for work had the left hand roof clip come undone while driving on rough ground often. Food for thought.

Does it have to be a SWB 4x4 ? I use a GU LWB Nissan Patrol as our shooting rig, the driver is the shooter and passenger is the spot lighter. We have found this combo to work very well.
Also look at a SWB GQ Patrol or Ford Maverick ( same 4x4 ) very capable. Or another is a 40 - 60 series Landcruiser's

Daihatsu Rocky Sportswagon RV, Turbo Diesel with coil springs.

The last series they made. Awesome offroaders, decent road manners, cheap enough to buy and run.

There is one on Carpoint at the moment.

I had one for years when shooting foxes for money, they are cheap to run, go anywhere but they are not the greatest on the highway and you can only fit a small amount of gear in them compared to the bigger 4X4's. It is a matter of compromises.

G'day

I've been in two great spotlighting vehicles in recent times. first was an older (approx 2001/2003) Jeep Wrangler. this was a dedicated spotlighting vehicle.Backseats removed, thick mdf board accross back of car, thick pad of foam. Sat there and put the rifle on the roof (soft top) and just had to point and pull the trigger. Had a spotlight mounted on a beam extending from the roof cross member, so drive could spotlight. Doors are low, so front seat pax can use a shotgun. Window folds down too. Wranglers are very heavy on fuel but.

Subaru brumby. Small ute but 4x4. sort of uncomfortable in the back but comfortable for taking shots.
