Tikka or Sako...what's the difference???

Post by Andries »

So they are the same manufacturer....

Well what's the difference?....apart from about a grand plus in price...

The Tikka has a 'plastic bit' at the end of the bolt...so what ?

Especially interested if you've owned/own both.

Cheers !!

Yep, i own both... Both are good, but!

Difference is;

like you said, bout $1000 in price!
The Sako is twice the rifle.. Smoother, 3 lug bolt, Super accurate..

I would buy another Tikka, but i would LOVE to have a safe full of Sako's...

I have a safe full of Sakos, but I take my Tikka every time I go hunting.

Tikka is the vw, Sako is the porshe. Both are good, but different.

Why is it because they are "too good" to scratch up? That's why I would only buy a VW. You don't take a "nice" car out bush to be scratched up.

Sako's are nice but I can't fault the tikka's they do what they are meant to and mine is deadly accurate out to 350+ yards (longest rabbit kill is 370yds in .223)

That's part of it, but mostly cause the Tikka is stainless synthetic and the Sakos are walnut. Why wreck nice kit in a harsh environment when there is something else totally suitable that can take the knocks more readily?

I still hunt with the Sakos, depends on where & what conditions.

Correct, although at the moment they are all way over priced IMO.

i am after a 204 but so far cant decide what make or model.
i have to register 3 more guns before i can get one,and that depends on IF the lgs will do a swap.im still waitin for the pta's on the last 4,so it might be a lil while yet.
BUT...if the lgs will swap...i have to to figure out what brand and model to get..

so thats why im asking bout brands and such....

Check out Hinterland Shooting Supplies @ http://www.hss.net.au and go to the 'Tikka Custom' link. They have a replacement bolt shroud which is aluminium for $60. They also sell the oversize bolt handle.

Roedale make new bottom metal to accept AI mags.
On sniper's hide they did say they were going to try and make both the AI mag system and a drop-in system that uses the tikka mags, but i can't find anything about the tikka mag version yet.

Well looks like the go fast businesses are finally starting to catch on! Most people who own T3s or are shying away from them don't like the plastic stock and bolt shroud(couldn't give a rat's arse about the bolt shroud! With the ability to retrofit this stuff, they may become even more popular! But hope the cost of this stuff comes down a good way too! Might be looking into the bolt handles soon though. Mine looks shit and is a little slippery.
