To be honest I find AO a pain, its good on my airrifle to help tell distance as I have marked off the most common ones and remarked the objective. For my hunting rifle's I feel AO of SF is a pain but that being said I notice with SF or AO once on about 100-150meters it covers alot more ranges where as when my Air-rifle scope ranges from 7 meters to 50 m there is alot of difference to adjust the AO etc a SF would be better and faster. I like my "hunting" rifles not to have the adjustable focus as its something else to fiddle with.

Varminting might be different more time to fiddle when sitting over a warren.

So I can get a NS Nighteater here in oz for $250AU or get a nikon buckmaster for $350AU landed approx. How much of a better scope is the nikon? $100 extra is gonna hurt because it probably means buying the mrs some jewellry or shoes, but is it a small jump for a 10 times better scope?

I currently have a nighteater on the HMR and have found it to do the job adequately, until it stopped putting the bullets in the right spot that is...

Nikon is much better than the Nikko Stiriling. Well worth the extra $100 for the better quality.
The nighteater get thrown into so many combo purchase coz they are real cheap.
They will get you shooting but for how long is another matter.
They have more lemons than most brands but you may get a good one.

The Nikons are better than a Leupold VXI the glass is similar but the adjustments are better.
For $350 landed you are getting around $500-600 of value in the Local Market.
