Sorry guys got a bit tied up after posting the topic.
Thanks to Dr. G and Trevort (i think)

What is it going on Dan? For what kind of shooting?
That is yet to be finally decided. Possibly the 260 for now. I am running a 3-15 x 50 Minox. Magnification is good for deer and short distant LR shooting.... hahaha say to 300-350m Eventually i wanna have something smaller caliber for Longer Ranges like a BR or SLR etc. ALSO I want something with very chrisp glass for any night shooting, That is where i based my choices aimed around the Ziess, Swartz and Khales
I was impressed with the HD5 at the show but the RX1000 reticle was very cluttered though probably extremely useful. I have only looked though 1 signtron but its hard to compare a scope inside handheld vs a scope outside on max zoom at 500m but the Sightron seems washed out and not clear.
No having bought anything in this bracket to date i can only really compare second hand pricing, a couple of Aust prices then mainly US pricing + conversion and postage incorperated

ps I'm sure someone will disagree though
Thanks for the input Mistit, i had heard good thing when we first started deer hunting as one of the best value for money choices. i looked at the 3-15 when i bought the minox but had never hear anything positive or negative. Most of the prices i have seen on the nightforce are a bit more then the equivelent. As far as my work horse at the momment it is shooting consistently at 0.4-0.5 inch so i would consider 1.5 @ 300m or 2inch at 400m more then capable but with a x15 zoom at the moment and the lack or shooting/varminting i get to do is very limited and its more often deer i am after in the state forests as i'm yet to find a good Warren spot to camp over and have No private land access within 5 hours.

I have to admit i Serious considered a Vortex over the Minox back a year ago, I chose the Minox as it as the most compact and best variable combo that was closest in specs to our Redfield. I was wanting something similar to the 3-9x50 on the wifes Tikka as its the best balanced combo i have held. I am less then impressed with the night capabilities with the Minox but i think i still need to lift the scope up a little higher as i also have extreme difficulties scoping from a Bipod in the higher magnification ranges.
Glad to hear the S3 performed in the shitty conditions as most of the cold weather hunting we do is fogging, wet and low light

Have you had a Sightron in the past to compare directly to?
bimbo wrote:I haven't had much to do with the vortex scopes, got a set of binos though that are good value for $$. I have a sightron S3 and love that bad boy (8-32*56) and I reckon it is pretty darn good glass for the money (around the $1000-$1100 mark). Before I bought mine I read quite a few reviews that mentioned that they considered the s3 comparable and even better than the nightforce (not sure which model but maybe nxs?) but the sightron was considerable less $. The scope itself would be absolutely fantastic at night - min has the moa2 reticle which probably wouldn't be that great at night as it is pretty fine but awesome during the day.
Another happy S3 owner
Does the S3 have a zero stop? At some of the pricing i have seem on the Nightforce i can't really justify all the fancier bells and wistles and extra weight and the extra $500-1000 when you look at the mount etc as well.
As it is i will be saving all the spare change over the year to get anywhere near an S3 so the NF would be even further away
