My partner has an iphone 5 (I dislike them for the same reasons as Mick) and is with Boost, I thought they were optus but she tells me telstra and I can say that she does not have any service issues whatsoever and always has service any time anybody else does and most often longer.

I love my iPhone 5s, the app ecosystem is better, less chance for exploits and the camera is the best on the market.

I am now begrudgingly with Telstra but in saying that their service is miles ahead of the competition.

Downside to an iPhone is no user replaceable battery, no external antenna connection and a smallish screen.

My advice is to hold out to August/September when iPhone 6 is announced and you will get a bigger screen (likely 4.7").

You can't change the resolution on the camera!

I have a Sony Xperia Z1, it has better service than an iPhone by far, my old man and I use both side by side, and the Z1 smokes it, better battery it seems too, although the iOS is more stable and is a little bit better as far as music goes etc.

If your worried about service, just put it in a car kit? That's what I did, because I work in areas of next to no service normally.

Look at a Bury System 9, it allows you to change the faceplate on the phone, which means you can change phones using the same car kit, pair it with a 6.6-7 db aerial and you'll be set. I had the system 9 till it got stolen out of my vehicle, it is an excellent choice.

My personal setup is a ZCG Scalar 6.6db aerial, and a Strike smooth talker. It works well.

I have had a nightmare run with Samsung. Sent one back 5 times because the camera stopped working. Each time it came back fixed, but after an hour it either froze, turned itself off or camera failed again.

I like my iPhone too.

Bloody hell what are doing to them lad?
S1->S2->S3 all Cyanomod'ed on nightly builds- all stable.

The only one I've had "freeze/lockup" is this S3 just a fortnight ago. Updated and it started "automatically rebooting" every 2-4 hours.

Downloaded the next nights build- installed- and no more issues.

Hey Mate,
Had them all over the last few years, I spend all day on road all over Vic, city and rural, as much as i hate to say it Telstra has by far the best coverage and fastest speeds. Had all the iPhones in the past, went to a HTC XL One ( android) , pretty good if your a gadget freak like me, but not as easy to use as an iPhone, now have a Samsung Note 3 , by far the best phone i've had, but same as HTC, more complex then the iPhones. Something to consider, cheap phones are easy to replace for next to nothing, drop a Note 3, broken screen = $550 ouch

If you want Telstra coverage but not deal with Telstra, Aldi prepaid use the Telstra network.
