I have a Maddco on my 6.5x55AI light gun now. I've shot a whole fly with it, so 48 rounds, and got not a drop of copper out of it afterwards, and very minimal carbon fouling. Granted the barrel was about 50 rounds old at the time, but I still get almost nothing out of it after a 1KBR shoot, which for me is usually about 20 rounds.

The 2 barrels I have had which fouled least were not accurate and were retired early.
The worst fouling barrel I have had was a Maddco, shot terrible as well.
The 2nd and 3rd worst fouling barrels I have had (had to clean after each target) were the most accurate ( one was a maddco).
My newest F class barrel (a Madddco) needs to be cleaned after every 24 shots ( 2 targets) Coppers badly, takes 2 dozen patches and brushes but is accurate for 2 targets.
No correlation between fouling and match accuracy for me.

Give me a barrel which fouls like a black powder barrel but is accurate over a non fouling tomato stake.

Yes, finding a good barrel can be expensive, but like everyone, I do like it when the new barrel doesnt foul, so much easier Isnt it.

Chambered in 6x45, coming from a sub-$500 Stevens rifle, with no bedding. :P :P

Con, what make of barrel do you have on this rifle? was it a rechambered 2nd handy?
(I'm in the process of getting the bits together for a 6x45 to strap on the rem action that's coming off my 204R)

feral buster,
It's an Adams and Bennet C/M barrel in F34 contour sourced from Shooters Whoesale Warehouse. Gunsmith was under instruction to cut to 22" and cut it to match the Savage sporter contour as much as possible. Barrel set me back $150 for the profiled blank in the white, fitting/chambering/matte blued etc... added to it by $180.

Here's 'Ole Yella'

For a walking varminter ... no complaints. On the whole, its a more accurate barrel than my T3 Varmint stainless which loves what it loves and hates what it hates with a passion.
Cheers...

Con, thanks for putting up the pic. Is that you in it? If so, I'm surprised how young you are: given your encyclopedic knowledge of firearms I thought you were about 103
I might hunt around for a stainless, if I can keep the whole show under a grand it will be my cheapest project yet
