Having recently purchased a Choate Tactical, I though I should post up a review.

Unfortunately I forgot to take any photos....

As per the link to the "FiringLine" review, the first thing I noticed on handling the stock was the thickness of the pistol grip in the lower section. It does take some getting used to, and is probably too thick for 75% of folks, my self included. Mind you it is only the Pinky finger that feels a little uncorfortable and you do get used to it very quickly.

The fit of all components was excellent, and I noticed no problems with the length of the stock SPS rear screw in the stock.

There are a few spots where the machining is quite average in finish, including the V block (rough-ish surface finish and quite average in the very bottom non contact section) and in the bolt cut out, of course both of these are not noticable once rifle is assembled unless you know.

Results on the range: Having replaced the standard SPS Varmint P.O.S. stock and torqueing everything up, average 5 round group sizes dropped by approx 1/2" now sitting around .75"-1" at 100m. best group was one ragged hole, and a flyer 1/3" left (wind or poor shooting? im not not sure) achieved using Win Supreme factory loads (I dont reload, yet). weird because I've never had any success with the Winchester ammo before.

Also I would like to thank the excellent folks at both Lynx Optics (Importer/Distributor) and Magnum Sports.

The level of service and communication on offer from both companies really blew me away, and I would recommend them to anyone.

Yep pure crap, i have a Choate Varmint stock sittting at a mates in the US waiting to get sent over cost me $149us was quoted $490 local

Hey thomo, how good a mate are we talking here, dont suppose he wants to get another possibly ? Last time i tried a bloke from the states from another forum and he took my money and no stock turned up, guess im just too trusting sometimes....

Sorry for the slightly OT post......

I have a brand NEW in box Choate Varmit stock for a Model 70 (short). This is the action they made for the WSM cartridges (not the WSSM) and the action measures 7in between the two bolts. Also often found with 22/250, 243 and 308 cartridges.

At the time I thought all Mod70 actions were the same (7.7in between bolts).

The stock has a full length alloy block for bedding and all screws, spacers and cheekpieces are there.

PM me to negotiate. I'll trade stuff and take $$$ too.

I have a choate ultimate sniper stock for my LH rem 700 vsf 223, have put on a mag extension so it holds ten rounds.
Works well for me, I like the chunky grip.

Look at 6mmbr.com - Russell Simmons (UK) World F-TR champion used a choate sniper stock to win his matches, says it's his favourite stock.

I paid $450 inc postage from NSW to VIC, though the quotes I received a few months back did suggest they would retail at $550 approx.

They can be had for as little as $160 US, if you find someone on that end to help you out. I admit I was going to do things that way, but I lost my Visa card in november, and still haven't been able to get a WORKING replacement.... I wont be extending any praise for Bendigo Bank.

Including the international shipping and US purchase price, you should be able to attain one for as little as $300-350 AUD.

Getting a stock sent out cost $40US for one and $55 US for two, as the postage includes a packaging fee. I got mine for $149US i piad for it and had it sent to my mate, its still there until i get some more play money. The stock i got for the 416 i got sent to him then I went an got 60us at the bank and sent it to him in a letter and he then posted the stock to me. Western union and the like are to bloody expensive.

Savage sold a number of their rifles new with these stocks around 10 years ago.

Why not try the Choate web site for information?
