Nasty Rumour

Post by Ron Goulding »

I was talking with a mate of mine who just happens to be a dealer today. He said that he heard from one of his Qld customers that the Qld Govt is trying to introduce a bill to there shooting laws, that you will soon have to be a member of what they are going to call a tactical rifle club, if you wish to own a Tactical rifle and get this, a tactical rifle SCOPE. He was told that what they are calling a tactical rifle scope is any scope that has a ranging retical,eg mil dot, ballistic plex etc. That means if you wish to purchase a scope with one of these reticals, you will be required to be a member of one of these clubs otherwise you will not be able to purchase. Like i said hopefully its only a rumour and if it aint, lets hope its for Qld only. I find it hard to belive myself as it would be way too hard to inforce. Would that mean a range officer would have to check every scope on the firing line and check that that shooter has the oppropiate license to have that scope. Also does that mean if your rifle is all blk ,that its a so called tactical rifle. I mean most of my center fires are all blk , does that mean if im not willing to join one of that tactical rifle clubs they will be another buy back ? Cheers Ron
PS buy em why you still can !

If I listened to all the rumours that go around (read fear mongering) I would have given up on the sport a long time ago. Sure he could be right but I doubt it.

The word tactical though is a whole crock of shite. Not one rifle or scope sold is a tactical rifle. The thing that makes it tactical is the end use. If I take an Anschutz 22 magnum and paint it olive drab, puts some tree patterns on it and then take it on a deployment, would this then be a tactical rifle, Yup.

I have seen many different types of equipment being used by various military forces in combat zones that you would classify as tactical, but its been straight of the shelf equipment.

Probably a rumour (I hope) or something started by the anti gun lobby, probably think QLD will be safer if they bring this in.

It's an interesting one. Frankly I have no problem having to join a "tactical club" (whatever the hell that is :? ) if it means more leeway and concessions for the type of equipment needed for tactical competition.

It's a two way street, "Tactical Club".... fine I'll have a higher capacity pistol and rifle thanks, a suppressor for both rifle and pistol and military grade NV equip too. Hell lets get a Ma Deuce at the range and really have some tactical fun. Thanks for coming up with this "Tactical Club", I didn't realize I needed all this equipment to be tacticool.

Oh wait, you want to create a "tactical club" to further limit my freedom to buy goods that I want.....in that case you can take your tactical club and shove it up your ass, tactically of course :bang:

I spoke with three Offices today and a Queensland Firearms dealer (who happens to keep a vigil on these kind of matters) and neither the members of Parliament nor the Firearm dealer had heard of any Bill to be brought before the Parliament.

One Office in particular went as far as to contact the Weapons Registry to seek clarification and confirmed that there are no Bills now or in the pipeline to be introduced by the Qld Government.

The only probabilities would be a private members Bill by an Independent,Greens or some other fringe dwelling group..... or perhaps someone that has bought a container load of these scopes and haven't been able to sell them so in the spirit of Rothschild during the Napoleonic war thought that a rumour would help move them along.

Sean

The private members bill would most likely be where its coming from if its true, they are usually the fringe dwellers who need to please everyone they can, so maybe the greens are putting it forward to please a lobby group.

G'day Ron,

No, I hadn't spoken to SSAA or their Queensland branch for that matter.

I don't think the SSAA would be oligarchical enough to support such an amendment. That is not to say that we do not stay vigilant.

My skin still crawls in regard to that facade back in 96 where I believe we were all sold-out.

I still can't believe that there are shooters out there that re-elected that toe-ragging arsewipe.

wow

A 3oo magnum Sako is a dangerous lonr range snipe rifle, what about a Rem 700 Varmint or any other 308 or even a 223. If ya know how to shoot and can calculate your ballistics, dont matter what ya shoot, they are all dangerous IN THE WRONG HANDS
