Dumpy Level as Spotting scope.

Post by wadcutter »

I bought a survey Dumpy level for a constriction job I was working on. After the job I have been using the Dumpy Level as a spotting scope for shooting. It works great and for the cost of $412 is a bargain.
They come with a full height set of leggs and a staff.

The one I got is 20 power but you can get them in a more powerful size if you want. I found 20 powder all I needed to spot bullet hits on paper at 100 yards no problem and impact points on steel targets at 441 yards without trouble.

The optics are clear and sharp as you would expect from a survey instrument.

Just a thought if you are after a spotting scope that can be used for other purposes. :D

Yep, me too, they’re tools of the trade that fit this purpose nicely……Sokkia B2 level (30x) or total station (32x)……….probably get more use for this these days, mostly been shoved aside by GPS in my field.
