Have you used one of these stocks? I know a couple of guys who did, but ultimately changed to something else. One described the Choate as anything but 'untimate'.

Too heavy, and not particularly ergonomic.

I recal someone saying they had to remove the cheek piece everytime they wanted to clean the rifle. Which involved having to remove 2 screws. Not the best design if this is true.

yes i have used one of these stocks.
i used one on a savage 308
and won the comp i was in by 1 point 300 m shoot.
and i cleaned the rifle before i gave it back and did not have to remove the cheek piece.it was a short action
there are 3 different models
sniper
target (which are the same as sniper ) but is the correct word to be used in this day and age . so as not to frighten the general public .

Too heavy, too uncomfortable, too cheaply made, the forend rail won't hold a bipod stably, other than an expensive Parker Hale or the cheaper copy, a Harris requires an expensive adapter in addition to the pod. Cheekpiece and 'adjustable' length of pull are plastic/dense foam rubber held on with self tapping screws, semi regular variations to stock will wreck the screw holes and bugger up an overpriced bit of equipment.

I bought a Savage VSS, extremely accurate rifle, standard fitted Choate, let down by a crappy stock - sold it after twelve months, only because of the stock.

(Just an opinion from personal experience, but compare it with a McMillan and you won't bother wasting your money on a Choate).

It will depend which cheek peice is fitted to the stock at the time. The lower one you can clean without removal and the higher one will get in the road.

The stocks do the job but are a good example of you get what you pay for.

Most guys i know that have them or have had them dont like them.
cheers,

I've used one a bit. OK for varminting but you could certainly find a better target stock, particularly if shooting over bags. The sloping fore end is a real pain and the no slip texture doesnt perform well in my opinion.

In the one i used the bedding block was also poorly aligned.

Check out the customs BS too if buying from the US. I think you need to apply for some bloody export permit which cost plenty and takes forever.

UPDATE , THE FACTS
you can get them out of DENVER . took 8 days from time i ordered it.
No export paper work / money
No import paper work or extra money to get them into australia.
got my stock total price to my front door $325 au. :D
if any one wants the contact details for DENVER .
with the high cheek rest fitted all you need to do to get bolt out is to cut a slot in the frontof it so bolt can be removed .

Cool Mate, let us know how it works out and post a pic or two. This is one of my Rem 700, single shot, PSECO built, sleeved action Maddco 26" HB, three lever trigger, tapered Picatinny rail mount, Warne Maxima QD rings, glued into a McMillan Prone stock in .22/250 Ackley. It shoots pretty good!
