It's a bit of a no brainer for me to build another one. Mandy's worked very well, and would probably still be bunny busting if she hadn't discovered the 204. I'm not a lover of the 22/250, and I just so happen to have one sitting in the safe...a perfect victim for a rebarrel. Shooting the 65 and 70 gr bullets, it should nicely complement the 243 shooting the heavy stuff. And I have the Redding dies as well....can't let them go to waste.

If youre refering to me jb i opted for a 6br over a 6/250 which im still undecided wheather it was the right decision or not but to late now as ive changed all my reloading gear over from 22.250 to 6br.
So what breed of .22-250 have you got for the makeover????

It was me, I'm getting shane to barrel my howa 1500 stainless short
action to 6\250 and shoot the 70gr blitz or the 70gr TNT at about 3,500fps
which is about what i want.
the 22-250 doesnt make use of that extra powder and room, i think the 243win
is in the same boat, they are too big for the little pills and not quite right
for the task, the 6/250 is (in my head) the best choice for the little bullets
and the 308 or something is a natural progression up from the
17hmr,204r,6/250,308/3006/270 etc. The 22-250 really doesnt offer (in standard
rifles - twist particularly) all that it could, and even when it does, its still
too close to the 243win to be really sensible.
obviously the 243win does other things than varmint shooting (which is what i'm
talking about)
I wanted the 6XC initally because i thought it was interesting, but its not that
much advanced on the 6/250 and more effort, this is a better idea for the cost
sensitive like me.
I have to say that the 6/6.5x47 lap. did look interesting, and if i havdn't gone
this way, thats were i'd go. Interestingly i wonder what the 6.5 necked down to
.224 would be like, think 1/2 way between the 22-250 and the .223 I think that
would be a more sensible step than the 22-250 for a .224 bullet. More performance
than the .223, but not pushing shit uphill like the 22-250 does (in my opinion
its on the border of becoming silly to try and push that bullet harder, and to
get more speed you'd have to go up in pressure/size sooo much..)
Soo many toys, so little money.
I'd love to drop the new barrelled action into a better stock for a sandbag, the
howa varmint stock is good, but a compromise, can be sholdered on foot (with some
grunt) but isn't perfect on a rest.. i'd go for a flatter stock next time around.

Arch, I saw one of Shane's rifles in Ballarat on Wed. 243, Rem action with heavy stainless barrel on a HS stock.
Was old and battered (or maybe just battered so much it looked old) and had the load written in text on the barrel. We were guessing that it was a professional roo shooters gun. He had (possibly got Shane to but not my guess) fitted a flat piece of shiny metal on the bottom of the stock obviously so it would slide easy over his window rest. This looked like a rough job but maybe something to consider or price, if you dont want a new stock, can you modify the one you got?
By the way, I was criticised for my choice of stock (HS thumbhole) as this dealer considers it too short and the extra stud makes shooting off a benchrest/bags more difficult. Hope he is wrong but the rifle is specifically for spotlighting.
thinking about calibres afteryour response, I am left with 2 calibres in no mans land after this. I traded my T3 243 for the scope to go on this rifle as I have 2 more powerful medium/large game rifles in 7-08 and 300wsm, and I felt the 243 as an in between with a light barrel wasnt serving any purpose, too light for a specialist varmint /spotlight rifle, outgunned for bigger stuff by two other rifles in the safe. I love the 204 and want it to be a custom job eventually but as not legal for roos I got a 223(527Varmint laminate) Like the calibre so far and very impressed with the rifle. Not needed for roos when the 6/250 comes along, not needed for foxes and below since I have a 204. That leaves the varmint stalker in 243 wssm. Its accurate, and I havent had some of the reported wssm problems but its a few 100 fps more than the 6/250, so what!
So far keeping them as you cant have too many toys. I wonder tho if the wssm would not be better traded for an HMR and the 223 used as the base for the custom 204............

You guys all loose out because mine is the exception to the rule- doesn't spend $$ on herself or me- but I still get the odd toy here and there without excessive complaining from the minister of fiscals and no fun
