I used to run a 3-9 trashco on a 243 I had which worked fine, I have since moved on to leupolds on my hunting guns and more expensive on the target gear.
One night while using the 3-9 I realised I had shot a fox at around 200m when it was on 3x, I now use low power scopes on hunting guns.
I personally prefer fixed scopes for hunting, don't want to be on 32x when a quick close shot appears.
My 204 has a 6x which is great(for me) in normal spotlighting conditions.
High power is easier off the bench - just depends what YOU want/like.
Buy the best you can afford and you wont end up with a collection of not so good "spare scopes".
