17 hornet scope?

Post by bimbo »

Looking for suggestions for a scope for the cz527 varmint 17hh. Looking at the cheaper end of the spectrum.

Rifle will be used as a walkabout small game getter, fox whistling and maybe get a run spotlighting if we aren't tagging roos.

Cheers
James

Yeah, buy the best you can afford in the power range that Andrew suggested, would do the job, but if used for spotlighting a lot I would go at least 50mm objective lens minimum :D

That would be open sights atm

Had a look through a few scopes at the missathon. NIkon rostaff looked pretty good for the $, also looking at something like a vortex diamondback and sightron s1. Just have to see what I can find for the right dollars

Nikon would do. The 3-9x40 AO EFR is an excellent all rounder, but the ProStaff would give you a wider choice of magnifications.

Like my AEON I now have on the hw97k air rifle. Have a chat with Matt Winser, they are well priced and I think very good glass for price James.

They have a 3-12 or 4-20. I have the 8-32 on the air rifle.

I have a Redfield Revolution 4-12x40 with the Accurange reticle. Optically a great scope, with an impressive field of view (compared to my other 40mm's). I wouldn't suggest the accurange reticle for a walk around varminter though. Oh, and they do have 50mm models.

If I had to find a negative with it that would be the lockable eyepiece. The reticle can move ever so slightly when adjusting, which could change the POI. I've found it best to lock it and not let anyone adjust it. Oh, it would be handy if it had a zero stop/reset but that's not a biggy unless you plan on twiddling the turrets a lot.

Note the Revolution is made at the Leupold factory in Oregon. The Revenge models are discontinued and NOT made in the US.

Prices for the Revolution have gone up over the years, now running around $400+.

Went with andy roo's suggestion and just bought a Sightron s1 with went with 3-9 with standard duplex for just over 200 including shipping from Magnum Sports. I will use it on the hornet until I decide what I really want and can afford then the sightron 3-9 will be rehomed onto my 7mm08.

Ive only shot it once but it does the job. The reticle is probably a bit too thick for my liking but I am used to pretty fine reticles but glass is clear enough although even at 9x it is hard to see the little 17cal holes but I also bought it for blowing up little critters at closer ranges so neither are really a deal breaker. It feels nice and solid and I think they are pretty good scope for the 200 odd bucks it cost
