sightron 2.5 x17.5 x 56
I noticed on another thread that kjd and seddo both had one of these.
I wondered how they were under lights and your thoughts on them in general.
I am in the market for a couple of new scopes. One will be the NF Actar but the other is open for something different for a change.
Use will most likely be on a varmit rifle 204 or 22.250 ackley.
Have been getting a lot of close in shots under lights and in the scrub hence the interest in the lower magnification.
Any thoughts welcome.
Cheers

Look forward to your thoughts after you get some field use then.

Re: sightron 2.5 x17.5 x 56
I've had one for a while now (about a year and a half) and I reckon they are a very good scope for the $$$.
Great glass, good adjustments, reasonable weight.
The only criticism I have is that they lack a hard Zero function on the elevation.
I've talked more than a few blokes into them after they get behind my S-TAC at a shoot.

Thanks Adam.
As a matter of interest do you use it in tactical shoots/comp.
How is the glass compared to the March on a similar power ?
Cheers

Re: sightron 2.5 x17.5 x 56
I don't shoot the tactical shoots as they want to use waaay too much ammunition for this little black duck. The scope would be very competitive in that environment but for the lack of a hard Zero. If you can take the time to ensure you reset to a correct Zero the glass won't let you down.macca wrote:Thanks Adam.

Compared to the March on similar power? You know, I've never done that. I will get stuck into it when I have a chance and report back.
If they made an STAC 5-35x56 I would be on it like a fat kid on chocolate.

I'm not to sure about that, the 2.5-17.5 already drops a lot of adjustment over the SIII series so unless they could sort that out they wouldn't do anything for me.adamjp wrote:macca wrote:If they made an STAC 5-35x56 I would be on it like a fat kid on chocolate.
S-Tac 2.5-17.5 Windage 40moa Elevation 80moa
SIII 3.5-10 Windage 120moa Elevation 120moa
SIII 6-24 Windage 100moa Elevation 100moa

i have stac 2.5 - 17.5... love it lots, although its heavyish, wish mine didnt have the illuminated reticle..
if you get one you prolly wont regret it, the glass is very good, only a absolute smidge behind the s3's

Funny that. I've put mine up against three SIII scopes and I reckon that the STAC image is superior to the SIII. This would be explained by the fact that the STAC uses HD glass, whereas the SIII series scopes use ordinary glass.johnty wrote:if you get one you prolly wont regret it, the glass is very good, only a absolute smidge behind the s3's
Just last week it went side to side with a SIII 10-50x60 and the STAC had better definition of the gum trees (branches and leaves) across the valley at any magnification than the SIII did at any magnification.

I like the stac and will buy another one but i have noticed that at the edges of adjustment the sight picture isn't as clear. They have 80moa in them and I was referring to 5moa off the bottom so it isn't that much of an issue.

Hi Macca,
How are you?
I've used mine if a night but not much, it is quite good, I use the illumination for spotlighting as the reticle is quite fine for night work.
If you wanted to organize a spotlighting session one night I'd be happy to bring it down your way for you to play with.
I do really like the scope!
Herrons brings them in and they are on their dealer portal if not on their website.

Hi Keith, I am going along okay.kjd wrote:Hi Macca,

Thanks for the info on the scope.
I might be able to organize a spot light when the ground drys out a bit here. Between soaks and wombat holes night trips have been a bit of a nightmare lately.
cheers

No worries mate, it doesn't worry me at all, just if you wanted to get first hand experience with it I thought it might be good.macca wrote:Hi Keith, I am going along okay.kjd wrote:Hi Macca,

Does anyone have any of the new STAC's? They have a 3-16 and a 4-20 with no illumintaion and a bit lighter.

Re: sightron 2.5 x17.5 x 56
Had a very close look at them at the Shot Expo. They represent excellent value for money with a good set of features. They lack the HD glass of the 2.5-17.5 though.
