Those external ideals are unfortunately difficult to meet reliably due to the variations between manufacturers projectiles and even variations between batches from the same manufacturer. You'd need a different unit for every projectile if you wanted to set it up so precisely. Adjustability is very difficult because you don't want any metal in there or it messes with the readings.

Part of the variation measured is internal with the presumption that a jacket thickness imbalances equate to lead core imbalances.

The other factor is that the sensor is between the bearings so that's where it's measuring. I'm contemplating building a 3 sensor unit with reading for front, rear and center but that's only after my 7 figure R&D budget is realised

All good fun thinking about this stuff :D

Ideally we'd reduce the errors in the projectiles to begin with.

Need some sort of adjustable bobbin that can drive the bullet or sensor back and forth. Keep thinking overhead reel but should really flip everything into the vertical plane and stand the bullet on the base point up. Rotate the bullet, slide the sensor up and down etc. Effectively you could plot a project and dump the output values into a spreadsheet and graph a profile from that.

Are you considering a drive mechanism for the unit as is? A mini USB turntable tone arm set-up would be cool - http://www.etailmailorder.co.uk/E1372-M ... -Convertor. Certainly makes getting the signal into a laptop a little easier.

Effectively you're making the projectile "sing" if you go back to basics and you're looking for the ones that can hold a note, you could be the first person to record the sound of projectile?

But I'll let you get back to the task at hand and look forward to the next update, certainly the update where you are thinking about parting with a unit. :)
