Beanbag front rests

I shot a couple of groups over a Caldwell bean bag type rest recently and it worked very well on the bonnet. Does anyone have any recommendations on which of these rests is the best to buy?

I'd definitely be in for something that looks like these, but in a simple basic brown (be great with an Orange end so you can find it when you drop it).



Just ship the bag and I'll find some plastic beads or crushed walnut to fill it with.

I have one similar to the one on the right from a sale that Ackley Improved did here a few years ago. It works well as a rear bag. Maybe a larger one would be the go for the front. It would be fairly easy to make too.

Just cut and seal the tube for the pressure gauge.

Mick, I did have some single tube jobs from a wall mount sphygmomanometer, but I think they fell victim to a cleanup in the shed. Still have the bulbs and valves though.

Two sizes, 150mm and 200mm diameter and about 250mm long, zipper and carry strap. Might try a bigger diameter as well.
Filled with some treated pine wood shavings.

They should be a bit easier to carry around and wont dent the car roof.
I added a strip of velcro to the smaller bag so it would attach to my other sand bags.

Has anyone used plastic extrusion pellets in their bags? Saw some at a factory a few years ago and now wish I had grabbed some, think they would be a good compromise on weight and still move and shape ok in the bag, plus rot proof.

Your system looks great Bruce.

The plastic beads are as far as I have got with this project (apart from buying one of the cheap mid sized Caldwell sets which isn't quite tall enough).

I bought a 20kg bag of recycled HDPE pellets from Astron Plastics (http://astronplastics.com.au) which is up the road from Abela's. The pellets were relatively cheap ($30?/20kg) and are great to work with. They are very slippery so they flow easily and pack down well. Call first before visiting because Astron are a big wholesale operation and they will need to drag a bag of pellets out of the factory for you.

Ive got one of the caldwell tackdriver front bags. Have to admit, works really well. Use it in conjunction with a small rear bag with the sauer 202.
