25mm vs 30mm tubes

Post by CZ550 »

G'day All,

Another Q about scopes. Still tossing up ideas for scopes for the .204 when it finally arrives. Think that I have either settled on a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20X50 or Sightron SIII 6-24X50. Sightron has a 30mm tube vs Zeiss 25mm.

Is there any difference between the light gathering ability of the different tube sizes given both have 50mm objectives? This rifle will be mainly used under the light for foxes so light gathering is important.

Does that larger tube result in a more sturdy design resulting in less potential POI changes with bumps etc?

Any thoughts appreciated if you have time,

Regards,

Bigger tube usually gives more adjustment , no effect on light gathering

I have both scopes you mention one on my 20 PPC and the Other on a 20 Vartarg

Under the light I really cannot say either scope is better than the other both scope work very well.In daylight both seem to handle mild mirage well but the Sightron may have the edge when it comes to sunflare.

As Bp72 said the 30mm tube allows for more adjustment range.

The Sightron has 100 MOA of adjustment while the Ziess has 45.

Opticsplanet has an Open box Ziess with Z-Plex reticle for $689 USD and Arcadian sales has the Sightron S111 starting at $750 USD for a Dot reticle.
