What's in your hunting day pack

Post by Buffy »

Hey guys as the title states. I'm in the process of building up a walk around hunting day pack.

So post up the contents of your day pack, this will give me some good ideas for the build up of mine.

Cheers

Mate

Pack- Camelbak MULE plus added small pouch for food
Hydration- 3ltr
Vectronix PLRF05
Windmeter
Phone for ballistics
Binos- 8X42
Food- couple of food bars
emergency poncho
some toilet paper just in case I shit myself

If going somewhere where I need to take the GPS and UHF, the binos stay at home due to room! But the MULE pack is small and packs nicely!

Later on will post picture if you wish!

Cheers

A rifle sling if not on the gun that can also act as a torniquet / arm sling.

A big yellow sheet of plastic that folds up very small. It can be used to
collect water, signalling, rain cover, ground sheet etc.

On that point, items that have dual or triple use are always good.

Always try to carry one of those Army tin openers.

Small Candle and Matches (waterproofed).

A manual compass like a Silva (as long as you know how to use it)

A whistle.

Thanks for posting the pic AI! You guys have pretty much summed up what I was going to put in my pack other than the spare rifle sling, that's a great idea 500nitro!

I don't think I will need spare ammo in my bag as I will have a full mag as well as an extra 9-10 rounds in the buttstock elastic keeper. If I go through 15 ish rounds in one session one of two thing have happened; either I can't hit the side of a barn from 5m or there is too many pigs or deer and I'm just getting greedy  let's be honest, it's NSW not the NT 8)

Buff Buster

A bit of a mis understanding.

I wasn't saying put a spare sling in the pack, I was saying put the only sling in the pack
unless it is on the gun BUT suggest using a sling that can also be used as a torniquet
or arm sling - ie some sling are too stiff, big, side etc to be used for that.

However, I notice someone else mentions para cord which I also carry and that
is good as a torniquet - and light !!!

Medical supplies and torniquets have become hot topics this year with the
number of people shot / injured (am mainly talking overseas where two PH's,
one was shot in the elbow with a 500 cal (lost the arm) and the other from behind
through the shoulder with a .458 Win Mag.
.

Remember spare ammo is also used for signalling, 3 x 3 shots is 9 plus what you have used
or may use up before you need the 9 ?

Personally I think we should ALL carry a small / compact First Aid kit. It may not be used on you, but maybe somebody else will thank you for it.

Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
