G"day All
Just got a call from a lady that wants me to exterminate a fox for her that has been devouring her chickens, apparently he has gotten very comfortable with the area and has no problem coming up to the back door and will sit and look for food.
Do I hit him with a beeman crow mag or just go the kodiaks.??

Im going the kodiaks. A bit heavier and i like the round nose. not sure why, i just do.

domed hunting pellet- into the head and it will drop on it's nose

CM's in larger calibers will work also but not my first choice- a large caliber CM stright onto the chest at very close rnage might work- but low priority shot - much prefer head shots
and if they are coming in that close you will be able to pick which eye ball you want to put the pellet into the brain

CM's are my first choice for birds
the Siler bears
then domed hunting pellets

I agree with the Kodiak .22. got a fox last week with the TTR back of the head at fourty paces.
haven,t pulled off a lucky one like that for a long time. And yes I keep forgetting to take the blasted camera!

Native I would suggest if he is that quiet a shovel placed with some velocity between eyes should do the trick

speaking further of CM's
at close range with my .25 cal I have no hesitation of putting a CM into a foxes head at close range

But then again I am dealing with over 45 FPE of energy with the .25 cal CM's.

That power level makes a world of difference on what you can be prepared to have a go at under 25 meters with which pellet

Sounds like the Kodiak's will get the jersey.

I agree with your comment on the CM,s P. I reckon if I had used a CM in .22 on that fox it may not have penetrated as well if at all through the skull as the Kodiak .22 did.
In the case of the .25 at the power you run it at I reckon it would have impacted the head well at the same 40 yards. A lot less luck in getting a clean kill would be needed by comparison.
As always shot placement with the guns we use can be crucial on some small game for maximum effect.

yep the extra power the .25 puts out give me so many more shot options than other AG's

I have taken shots with it I wouldn't have considered with a lesser powered gun- even if I was a good enough shot to make propper placement with the lower powered AG.

one of the reasons I like it so much

but also close in I have to be extra carefull of my back ground as a through shot is not a good thing
I have roughly calculated that a through shot at 20 metres (pigeon) with a Kodiak will still have more grunt than most springers put out at he muzzle

Yep that I can believe! The big Rapid can sure drive those pellets!

Well, I went for a look this arvo, upon arrival I was told where he was seen last and headed over that way only to see the fox runnin off with a bird of some type in it's mouth,it headed across the road and into some briar bush.
I decided to sit and have a call with the predator call and 10 minutes later a fox appeared some 100mtrs away and was a different fox to the first one I seen,he stopped had a look at me and then trotted off the other way.
I headed back to the house to have a look on the other side where there was a nice gully filled with cover,no luck there after 30 minutes, only a few wallabies and a roo was seen.
I headed back to the house and was sitting there havin a yarn and here the fox comes,about 80mtrs out and it's pretty dark by now so on goes the torch to rifle and I sit and see where it will go,It's nosing about in the open about 50mtrs away but very agitated,I got a good steady lean off a tree in the front yard and at 50mtrs let the fox have it.
I felt the shot was good and heard a solid whack,he jumped over the edge of a very grassy gully and i was not able to find the fox after 10 minutes lookin with the torch.
To say I was disapointed is an understatement,I know it wont be back anyway.
