Serious question- Is there a 1000 fps (with Kodials) .177 AG

Hi
I was looking through some old gun mags looking for any recent articles on the 17 Fireball- TrevorT's one has got me thinking.
I came accross Gun Australia July/Sept 2008 where there is a write up Webly and Scott patriot AGs in .177 and .25 cal
on page 26 middle column they start quoting figures- the .25 cal doesn't live upto it's advertising figure by 300 FPS
advertised 950 obtained during test between 656 and 610 with Silver bears and Ram jets- imagine they would have been lucky to break 500 FPS if they had tried Kodiaks.
advertising blurbs are shit
The .177 also tested claims 1350 at muzzle
Article admits this is usually obtained with a 7 gn RWS hobby or something lighter
They claim using a 10 grain pellet (Gamo ts-10) it was doing almost 1000 fps ( 12 FPE)
Problem is Chairgun2 list the weight of the TS-10 as 7.6 grain ---so someones got their figuures wrong somewhere
Out of interest I ran some figure again through CG2
using a Kodiak - 10.6 gn- if it could do the 1000 fps claimed with a 10gn pellet as the article says
using the 3/4 inch mid flight height I like to have all my guns done to........
10.6 kodiak, 1000 FPS- 23.5 FPE muzzle, mid traj is at 33 yards (16 fpe) zero is 49.5 - call it 50 yards
2 inch low at 64-65 yards- with almost 12 FPE left
THats bloody good range for a .177 and good hunting power too
Just a pity the guns them selves cannot live upto their advertising blurb
Got me thinking
Is there an AG out there that can do a genuine 1000 FPS ( or better) with a 10.6 Grain Kodiak ( or the 11.5 grain silver arrow) in .177 caliber?
The only proviso is that if its a break barrel it cannot be a pig to operate as my kids and the younger cousins will be using it
None of them can do my HW-90 un- aided- even the 13 year old boy.
If yes what is it
and
Lewis much does one cost with a kit of a few sleeves Kodiak (Silver Arrows and some heavy Exacts) and a nice AG scope- prefer a G&R scope
Thanks

The RWS Hobby used to be the favoured pellet for velocity claims but it's long out of favour at 6.9 gns.Pellets of 5 gns and under abound now!
VERY few springers do a genuine 1000FPS even with our 7.1 gns Silver Bears and in fact only the R1 will do it in the Beeman range.Any others that do exceed 1000FPS probably won't do it for long!!
As far as I know, only a high power PCP Sporter eg Rapid/HW100/Steyr LG110 will crack 1000FPS with a Kodiak or JSB Exact Heavy.

They list HW-90 barrels in .177 for sale for 125 pound
What sort of velocity, with Kodiaks or JSB E-heavy, would my HW-90 do in .177 with one of these new barrels fitted?/
Thanks

A Rapid mk11 will do it as will a few other pcp's, but your on the edge of the envelope accuracy wise which is a longer story. Mine gives 55/60 shots form a 400ml bottle using 10.5gn prems.

You're limited in energy with an HW90 in .177.I set them at 17FP with Kodiaks which is about 850FPS.
Any more pressure and the piston seal will burn.

3 words: Air, Force, Condor.
It will do your 1000fps with ~28gr pellets after a proper tune. I think maybe 850-950 before.
1000 fps+...

Quite a few PCP air rifles will exceed 1000 fps. Especially in .177.
Up to an 11 grain pellet with anything more than 25 ft-lbs will be higher than 1000 fps.
Given that many PCPs come in at around 30 ft-lbs in .177, that's not an unreasonable figure.
Also, there are two high-end .22 Air rifles will meet this out-of-the-box that I know of.
The Evanix AR6 will achieve 1033 fps with a 28.8 grain Eun Jin pellet at full charge, out of the box. That's a tested figure and you can get the test results from their website.
Also the Day State 80 ft-lb model (don't know exactly which this model is) will do this.
The Airforce condor .22 might, but not with a 28 grain pellet. At least not out of the box, based on their quoted power figures, although I have heard of people tuning them up to 100 ft-lb.
Very few .177 springers have that kind of power, as was mentioned, though you could probably get a theoben type gas-ram model up there.
Keep in mind that the objective with all rifles isn't usually power, it's accuracy. Up around that speed, you tend to lose accuracy due to being in the transonic region, making pellet selection far more critical.
David.

Thanks Ogre6br,
Yes is was intended as a reply -
I'm just too new to this forum and hit "new post" instead of "reply" at the bottom... My bad.
Quick summary - Many PCPs will too 1000 fps+ in .177. Anything over 25 ft-lbs is a contender.
In .22, only two that i know of will break it out of the box with heavy pellets (28.8gr Eun Jins) - the Daystate Air Ranger 80 ft-lb and Evanix AR6 (for about the first 12 shots).
The Air Force Condor would be a close third and comes near breaking it, but with lighter pellets, eg, 22gr, should still break it. Tuned, will easily break it also.

David
