What scope for a springer- what duds have you found

I am looking for comments on the scopes people on this site are using on powerful springers such as R1 and R9.

What are the reliable ones, and what one should you stay a pole distance from.

I know I can pay a lot of money and get a trouble free scope, but what is reliable in the lower priced range that will do the job.

Thanks for you comments. :D

I bought a 2nd hand Simmons 4-12x40 with AO down to 10 yards from Lewis when he serviced my HW80. I really like the AO as it has a large chunky rubber grip that makes it easy to turn with just the thumb.

A look at this site may help.

I believe Lewis at Beeman has some Hawk scopes.

All mine have had G&R scopes on them supplied by Lewis- they haven't moved at all and not to Exy either for the quality you get

All my scopes except for one BSA are Simmons I have 3 Whitetails,2, 4-12x44 and a 6-20x50,a 6-20x 44 Mag a 4-16x40 Prairiemaster and a late model Pro hunter 4-12x44 Side focus. All the Simmons scopes have been on a springer or a gasram or a pcp in their life time. The scope that was worrying me on the springer and gas ram was the late pro hunter, but after pretty extensive use on those guns it is still holding together. The two newer makes of scope that interest me are Hawke and Vortex, both seem to be good value for money for A/R use. At least there is a good range of reasonably made/priced scopes to choose from now. So you should be able to dodge the real duds out there.

I have a G&R supplied by lewis on my R9 think its 3-12x44, very versatile, AO down to 7 yrds probably the best scope in the safe. Has been very good.

I've had a 2-7x32 nikko air on my R1 since day one and its as accurate as ever.
I also have weaver, leupold and simmons and they all have stood the test.
comes down to what you want to spend, just as long as it's spring rated.
Regards

The really bad scopes don't seem to be around anymore or at least I don't see them. They used to break reticules, shatter lenses etc ..I even had one break in two!!!
Stick to known performers with proven support if something goes wrong.Last thing you want is an argument or be told it has to go back to the factory.
I have sold a lot of scopes for all manner of airgun for almost 20 years now from just about every manufacturer known.I've had the best trot with Gerholdt&Reuss,Weaver,Sightron and Hawke plus the old Simmons Whitetail 3-12x44 and 4.5-14x40,both sadly discontinued. If these scopes fail,it invariably traces back to airguns with seal troubles.
